The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

In other news... Homer is most definately, among other things, a pointer. He just now stalked a rabbit that was in the yard, slowly, carefully, and as long as the rabbit froze... maintaining a perfect point position worthy of an oil painting. Foot up, tail straight out like a banner. I wished I had the camera. Never had a dog that would do that.

Then Gidget came and chased the bunny away.

What did Cisco do?

I've enlisted Miss Cat in the battle of the bunnies....put some of her fur around the perimeter of theraised bed. It seemed to help last year.

In other news...the bunny-pruning of the parsley seems to do it some good.

Well, he appears to have dragged a flower pot and it's former contents all over the yard. I noticed when I was out mowing. He's a bad boy :~\ He better look extra super cute and pathetic when she pulls into the gate, is all I'm sayin.

I had to call Michelle Finizio today at Camillus to go over a small problem with the last shipment of blades (mismarked packaging, the wrong blades with the wrong sheaths). I got a terse "Michelle no longer works here."

I don't know what happened, but it didn't sound very pleasant. She was a great fighter for the Hobbit Hole support project, and helped make it what it is today. Along with everybody here, on this end.

I talked to her replacement, Wendy Williams, who is continuing the great support from Camillus. As we talked, I learned a few new things.

First, we're getting 15% off of DEALER prices. Second, there's an additional discount if we order in quantities of 50 or more. I don't know if were ever going to order that much at once of the more expensive knives, but it's nice to know.

Anyway, that's the latest in the Hobbit Hole/Camillus relationship. And it's still far more meaningful than our dealings with Gerber.

If we ever lose out support from Camillus, we would have to close up shop.

*sigh*

I'm just too mentally tired to care much.

But I still should really go to *town* for a mower blade, possibly a new pot, and the hangers for them.

Gah.

Town? Now? Well, if you do...Take the old blade with you... or at least measure it and take a good look at it for shape... there's different sizes.

So that's why he goes walkabout.

He gets to hunt without Gidget scaring away the prey. ;-)

Yeah...I have to figure out if I can get it off without borrowing tools again.

I would just wait, but in talking it over with folks at work, they pointed out that if it was able to work loose as much as it has, there's always the chance it could work allll the way loose, given a little time...and that'd probably not be good for any person in the vicinity. Unlikely, perhaps, but now I'm skeered of it.

Hehehe...the parsley's been leafing out pretty well after a bunny-pruning. On the other hand, the steenkin' squirrels for some reason like to dig holes near the roots. Dang plant-killers!

No - you can't get it off there without tools. You don't want to round the bolt off. If we took back the socket, feel free to come get it.

Let me check if any of my tools have a big enough socket...if not, I'll be over. Have to bring over a piece of mail anyhow...got into my mailbox by mistake.
