Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Until the stars are all alight
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Okay homeschoolers, here's a test:
Jr. has to do a model of a red tail hawk for biology. No, of course he didn't choose an easier animal/bird/creature.
I'm thinking we make a wire frame from a coat hanger, cover it with brown paper and then use smaller bits of color paper to act as feathers, etc.
Discuss. Of course this is due ~Friday~

You know, I haven't watched AI, but I may need to just to see Elliott. The local buzz is promoting him and a local pizza place had 10 extra phones installed just for folks to call in.

That sounds like a good plan....
When I was about his age, I made a spiney ant eater out of papier mache and pine needles. I remember being under similar time constraints...waited till the last minute to even bring it up, you know...

Wife suggested stretching some nylons over the frame and adding feathers.
I see that as a recipe for disaster.

Vocally, he's the best of the bunch, IMO. And he's improved a lot over the course of the competition - to me, he came across as realllly nervous at first. He's settled in.
There are few songs he's done where I've heard 'em later done by the original artist and thought "This isn't how this goes..." His voice grabs ya.
He and Taylor are my favorites.
To: RosieCotton
Supposedly tonight he has to do a song from the year he was born? Localradiogal said that would be 1976.

Sounds like a good plan to me. You could also use a little paper mache over the brown paper, I s'pose. and if'n ya wanted to get fancy, craft stores do sell feathers...though they're often in funky colors.
To: RosieCotton
That was my concern with the feathers. I think I'll stop by the craft store on the way home and see what I can come up with.

I think he's younger than that -.'78, I think. Taylor's a '76 guy - ten days older 'n me. No, I didn't go look that up - it was shown in one show.
But in any case...yeah, the whole birthyear thing puts the 70's folks at a disadvantage...
To: Corin Stormhands
They do also make yarn that's got feathery stuff on it...maybe if he wrapped that around it?
But paper's gonna be a lot easier to work with, no matter how you look at it.
To: RosieCotton
I think we can get more detailing done with paper.

To: Corin Stormhands
That sounds pretty good.
Red tailed hawks are cool. You could also use paint for the chest/head. I like using bits of paper for the feathers. Nice touch.
To: Corin Stormhands
I could give you some horse poop, if it'll help the project. :~D
To: Corin Stormhands
You know, I haven't watched AI, but I may need to just to see Elliott. He's not bad, not bad at all. He's also living proof that a good stylist (and style) works miracles.
