The victim, a single mom who turned to exotic dancing to support her two kids, attends North Carolina Central University, a mostly black college in Durham.
She plans to keep a low profile until the students go on trial to avoid inflaming tensions in the black community, where opinion is running heavily against the privileged students.
One of the most hurtful things for the woman about the media circus surrounding the case, the cousin said, is the tendency to assume the worst about her because she is a stripper.
"She's a victim and she's a human being," the cousin said. "Her occupation couldn't justify that a crime like this was committed."

I hear they're sending the new results to a lab in Aruba.
For some reason, I can come to grips with the details of this case, really don't even want to know them. Fallen women have some rights, too, but women should never willingly put themselves in a situation where this can happen, not that it excuses any men involved. It's just prudent.
The cops? She was calling her pimp. Everybody in da house knew what was comin' down.
John Bourlon (SP?) is Nifong's "good old boy." He was making most of that stuff up as he went along.
The assault was pretty typical college boy junk--mouthing off after drinking and ONE punch was thrown. Really no big deal.
There were two attorneys, one female and one male, both saying the same thing. I was so furious. Oh yeah, kids vacating a house because they were underaged drinking and had hired a stripper = rape. What a joke these people are.
You said: "There are no good guys or gals in this story."
"...Does anybody remember when unwed mothers became single Moms?..."
It was when the bs pc crowd "cleansed" that term from the lexicon af American thought.
I am of the opinion that that is exactly why we are where we are today; she was going to be charged with public drunkenness; with her record, they just might have taken them.
What better way to avoid prosecution, huh?
It's scary that they're people defending putting kids away for at least 16 years for having strippers over.
Either they're Rapists or they're not. I don't see where the bad judgement or the imperfections of 18-20 year olds enters into guilt or innnocence.

".....One of the most hurtful things .........is the tendency to assume the worst about her because she is a stripper....."
Actually, the fact that she is a stripper is the last item on my list. It is her criminal record, her alcohol history and the fact that she had kids with one man while married to another. Then I get to the stripper part.
I think getting charged with any crime is a big deal but that's just me. I suppose these days it's to be expected of college students, even from Duke.
And high schools provide day care for their unwed student moms.
Bourlon (or Boylon) is a redneck good old boy from around there.
I've seen him twice and nothing he has said has been discussed anywhere else.
Hell, he even called the cab driver a liar.
"If it turns out, this entire event was a hoax that was permitted to go forward so a DA could be re elected, who will be held accountable?
Will the stripper go to jail?
Will the DA go to jail?
How many millions in damages are going to be sought by all the people involved in this matter, if it turns out to be a lie?"
Good questions.
In the big scheme of things, it was forgotten until the rest of this happened. Unfortunately now Finnerty will be made to look like a rapist with a criminal past.
It's blown totally out of proportion, and I think being charged with a crime is a big deal as well.
I cannot agree more your opinion of the Child Protective Services.
I'd be willing to bet from the way this woman has lived her life that she's been in trouble with Social Services before.
The way she's lived her life:
Larceny
Alcohol
3 license suspensions
Stripping
Bad Conduct (General Discharge) Military
DWIs
Assault
a Drug charge
Sad and sickening isn't it? And who pays for those day care centers???
The victim, a single mom who turned to exotic dancing to support her two kids,
How does she explain the fact that she was doing this BEFORE she had children?
She's never been involved in ANYTHING where she didn't get in trouble and get some GUY in trouble.
Does getting busted out of the Navy because she got pregnant while in a submarine make her a good mother?
