My sister-in-law told me over Easter weekend of a potential scam that occurred at her place of work. She works in the Human Resources department for this company and is a very reliable source.
It happened last month here in the Denver area. Her place of work is in a cul de sac and not the type of business that generally gets the general public just walking in.
It was a snowy day that day. Her place of work has a nice front area with a receptionist. A Mexican woman walked in with a young boy who was wearing a helmet. The woman asked the receptionist if she could come in to use her cell and she told her it would be all right.
The front area is nicely furnished and has glass tables. The young boy took off his helmet and decided that he is going to use it to beat on the glass furniture.
The receptionist politely asked the woman if she would stop the boy from doing that and that's when all hell broke lose. The woman became unglued and said that she was being harrassed because she was Hispanic and she then called the police. The receptionist also called the police.
Luckily and unbeknownst to the Mexican woman, all of this was caught on video tape. The police officer(s) said this is a common scam happening lately. A person will come in and deliberately create some kind of problem and when confronted will scream racism, call the cops, and try to sue. So far my SIL has not heard of a lawsuit being filed against the company but that is to be seen.
People think that is a joke but reports have it that is just how the Reverend Jackson operates.
And it is nothing new among leftists. Abbie Hoffman, Black Panthers, and other radicals met with the producers of the first Woodstock concert and demanded that they be given $10,000 (in 1969 no less) as well as space to put out their agitprop or else face the consequences of bad advance publicity and possibly worse. Considering that at the actual event, the fences were torn down and the food vendors' booth was burned down by arsonists, and Abbie Hoffman tried to hijack the mic during the Who's performace, who knows what "consequences" they were threatening.
I see. You advocate murder to avoid a false lawsuit.
Please tell me your place of business, that I might avoid it.
See, I don't advocate vigilantism. Exposure of those who cry wolf is the best tactic.
You can't do anything nice for anyone anymore because you don't know what their motives are. I had a young Mexican girl knock on our door at 4 o'clock in the morning a couple of weeks ago. She was crying and said she lived really far away and wanted to go home. My husband was downstairs by that point and she said she had been at a party (Tuesday night/Wednesday morning BTW) and the people had came to the party with left her there. I asked her if she wanted me to call the police and
she wailed that she didn't want that. She said she needed a couple of dollars and would try to catch a bus. We gave her a couple of bucks in change and she was on her way. Her story may have been genuine but I was leary of her motives. No way was I going to have my husband take her home to wherever she lived--she could have claimed anything at that point.
Anyway, I was kind of grateful she came to our door because
she also informed us that our garage door was open--our garage is full of stuff we would rather not have stolen.
You need to use XML-compliant sarcasm and facetiousness tags.
The 'bitch' who accused him had a lawyer send letters demanding money for damaged lug nuts, improper wear caused by poor fitting of spare tire, and crap like that. He finally had to get his own lawyer to fire off a cease and desist letter.
Wow! It's a shame but you really do have to be careful about whom you help out.
You say that like it's a bad thing ....
An old friend had someone try something like that on him once. He mailed the attorney a new piece of .357 brass with a note asking if he wanted the rest of the assembly. The letters ceased.
As the saying goes 'you need to watch your back' as opposed to you need your back watched.
I was being approached to represent Hispanics in similar meritless situations back in 1990.

Glad they had that camera. It's bad enough what the lady is doing but it really makes me mad that the kids are being taught this kind of thing.
