"How on earth does the nationality of the driver have ~anything~ to do with the story?

Or has it finally come to the point that any time a hispanic last name is mentioned within an article, it instantly becomes an immigration issue?"

OK, well here's another story: A DRUNK ILLEGAL smashed into my brother head-on last week. Since he has NO INSURANCE, our rates (including my brother's who thankfully escaped with minor injuries; who gives a crap about the illegal) will all rise accordingly.

I'm sorry about your brother, Flightdeck.

But the fact is that the other driver was drunk. His legality didn't cause the accident.

I have an almost identical story. My aunt was crossing a street (in the crosswalk) when she was run down by an illegal. Smashed both of her legs, and she had other serious injuries. The doctors didn't think she would ever walk again, if she lived. Praise God she survived and can walk. Her recovery and rehab took almost two years. Guess who had to pay the bills? She did. Of course, he didn't have insurance. I don't know what happened to the illegal, if anything. Un-freakin'-believable!

Why would your rates go up if you are not at fault? My husband and I were not at fault in two collisions we've been in over the years, and nothing happened to our rates. In the first case the driver was insured; in the second he was not.
