Expectant mom dies in collision
A 27-year-old expectant mother died in a head-on collision Sunday on U.S. 31 in Shelby County, authorities said.
Sarah Porter, 27, of Jemison died in the 11:20 a.m. accident, said Sgt. Tim Sartain, Alabama State Troopers spokesman. She was six months pregnant, said Doug Ballard Jr., Shelby County coroner.
Her husband, 29-year-old Heath Porter, remained in critical condition at UAB Hospital Sunday night, said Bob Shepherd, hospital spokesman.
Marco Guarviola, 26, address unknown, a passenger in the 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck that collided with the Porters' 2002 Volkswagen, was also taken to UAB Hospital, where he was listed as critical Sunday night, Shepherd said.
Manuel Valdez, 22, address unknown, who was also in the truck, was taken to Princeton Baptist Medical Center. Efforts to reach a hospital spokesman Sunday night were unsuccessful.
The accident, which occurred in the Saginaw community just south of Alabaster, is under investigation, Sartain said. He declined to provide details.
Several serious accidents have occurred at the site, Sartain said.
"I don't understand why so many accidents have occurred at this particular location," Sartain said. "Traffic is moderately heavy, but the street is a straight, two-lane stretch."
Accident fatalities are always sad, Sartain said.
"But this happening on Easter Sunday is such a tragedy," he said.

Another reason it matters is because we are required to have insurance.
They can't get insurance because they have no DL's. So we, the citizens end up paying and paying when these people cause tragic accidents like this.""
I researched my records on my auto insurance.
Found a bill from 1993 from State Farm, who I have been with about 25 years.
In 1993, my "uninsured motorist" coverage cost me about
1/2 of one percent of my premium.
Today, with absolutely no accidents or tickets on my record, I am paying more than 30% of my premium for "uninsured motorist" coverage.
This is due to illegal intruders, nothing else, IMO.
This isn't the same story.
The details are all different - vehicles, hospitals, etc.

Doesn't prove a thing.

This comment shows how geared to the spectator is our society.
Bullcrap. You added the words "Mexican immigrants" to the title.
A mother expecting her first baby is dead. She was hit by a truck driven by an alien without a DL, and without insurance.
He husband may not live.
The point here showing WHY it is dangerous to have an open border, and that the LIBERAL NEWS MEDIA will use any means possible to spin a story in favor of illegal aliens, even going as far as not saying who was driving.
If I remember correctly, isn't the liberal media one of the enemies?
I agree. This is just another mere coincidence
I added my son to my insurance last week. The underwriter called me up the next day and asked for the DL number.
Really? Here in Florida, there are are a TON of non-insured drivers, the majority of them "legals", and heck, alot of them are good, white-bred Americans..
Illegals come up in every thread it seems, I am waiting for someone to come up with the illegal alien/Terry Schiavo tie in..
I'm sorry about your brother, Flightdeck.
But the fact is that the other driver was drunk. His legality didn't cause the accident.
If they are here illegally, they deserve neither.
Where in the article does it say that illegal aliens were involved? How do you know they are Mexican? Maybe they are Cuban, Spanish... or, God forbid! AMERICAN!
But his illegality has caused massive bills for the citizen.
Translation no D/L or registration card.
Yes, it was a different story. I was just adding it to the thread.
The point is that the article by the LIBERAL NEWS MEDIA left out the pertinent facts which WERE REPORTED ON radio and TV in our local area.
But was he illegal?
My point is that tragic auto accidents happen every day. Jerks (from all backgrounds) drive around without insurance every day. Unless the driver was fleeing from the Border Patrol when he caused the accident, I cannot see why their nationality or legal status matters in the story.
You laid out this story to incite anger against Mexican immigrants without the article even mentioning the driver's race or legal status. Your motive is showing.
>>>I don't recall my insurance company ever asking for proof of my driver's license. Why would they care? Now many states will not give you a driver's license without proof of insurance.>>>
Of course your insurance company asked for your DRIVER INFORMATION. They base their eligibility/rates on your driving record. If you have no driver license, you have no record. No insurance company will insure an unlicensed driver.
If he's legal (or a citizen -- we do have millions of citizens with Mexican last names), do as is normally done. If he's illegal, ship him off to a Mexican hospital as soon as he can be safely moved.
