Expectant mom dies in collision
A 27-year-old expectant mother died in a head-on collision Sunday on U.S. 31 in Shelby County, authorities said.
Sarah Porter, 27, of Jemison died in the 11:20 a.m. accident, said Sgt. Tim Sartain, Alabama State Troopers spokesman. She was six months pregnant, said Doug Ballard Jr., Shelby County coroner.
Her husband, 29-year-old Heath Porter, remained in critical condition at UAB Hospital Sunday night, said Bob Shepherd, hospital spokesman.
Marco Guarviola, 26, address unknown, a passenger in the 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck that collided with the Porters' 2002 Volkswagen, was also taken to UAB Hospital, where he was listed as critical Sunday night, Shepherd said.
Manuel Valdez, 22, address unknown, who was also in the truck, was taken to Princeton Baptist Medical Center. Efforts to reach a hospital spokesman Sunday night were unsuccessful.
The accident, which occurred in the Saginaw community just south of Alabaster, is under investigation, Sartain said. He declined to provide details.
Several serious accidents have occurred at the site, Sartain said.
"I don't understand why so many accidents have occurred at this particular location," Sartain said. "Traffic is moderately heavy, but the street is a straight, two-lane stretch."
Accident fatalities are always sad, Sartain said.
"But this happening on Easter Sunday is such a tragedy," he said.

Interesting. My grandparents all came from Poland and not one of them would ever tell you they were Polish. They all said they were Americans after the day they got their citizenship. I guess that's the difference between those that really believe in their American citzenship and those that see it as just an adjunct to themselves and their identity.
I do hope it turns out that these were in fact legal residents. I mean, obviously, that would make this tragic loss, less tragic.
Or would that be more tragic. Doggone it. Now I'm confused.
>>>IF this individual was an illegal alien
Now you say "IF".....that's all I was asking for. And now I agree with your statement.>>>
Yes, sorry, I should have made that clear from the start.
You miss understood what I was saying.
When I enter the mall and bump into a person with a foreign accent, they'll say... "Oh, I'm French, but I've lived in America for twenty years and I am a citizen." My grandmother would say, "I'm Canadian, but I have become an American."
My grandparents were staunch patriots for America. My grandfather had eleven siblings, and he was the only one in his family who came to America and renounced his citizenship to Canada.
His siblings envied his opportunities and financial standing. But, they never understood that with American opportunities come American responsibility. In that manner, both of my grandparents helped to keep America what it is.
My grandparents weren't hyphenated Americans. But their BACKGROUND was Canadian. And as my grandmother would remind me, her great-uncle was the first prime minister of Canada. A distinction she was proud to remember... but not one that dictated where her loyalties lay. They laid with America.
My grandparents were also proud that their children were first-generation Americans. They knew their children would flourish and prosper.
BTW, the husband was also taken to UAB. Does that make him illegal?
I just noticed that the words "Mexican immigrant" have been removed from the headline.
Ya think that ~someone~ did that because they couldn't find a source?
Or maybe they ~did~ find a source...
They were undocumented. Take that to mean what you will.
Whoever "we" is is wrong. Because if the borders were secure and those two were in Mexico on Sunday where they belong, a young woman expecting her first baby would still be alive.
The article says "address unknown." That's all that means.
No, it means that the trauma was so severe that they didnt take him to the closest hospital, Shelby Medical, but took him to the regional trauma center, UAB, which is also a teaching hospital that takes indigents.
Well, unless they "belong" in Honduras...or Guatemala...or Arizona...
I will try this one more time and will type very slowly because you obviously struggle with the language:
It may be true that the other driver was an illegal immigrant (Mexican or otherwise), but you have supplied no documentation to back up that ASSertion.
It may be true that the other drive does not possess a valid driver's license, but you have supplied no documentation to back up that ASSertion.
It may be true that the other driver is not able to read the traffic signs, but you have supplied no documentation to back up that ASSertion.
HOWEVER...it is absolutely, positively NOT TRUE that the accident was caused BECAUSE the other driver was (or was not) an illegal immigrant.
That's a fact.
Okay, now we're getting somewhere. That makes sense.
However, del4hope was using UAB as another "indication" that the other driver was an illegal immigrant. Thank you for clarifying that he may have been taken there because his injuries were also traumatic.
I've been all over the Internet looking for just that information. All that exists out there, that I can find, is the article posted above.
No one locally (in the Birmingham area) has been able to (or has chosen to) provide any additional information.
Surely there's ~something~ out there.
The fact remaining that illegal aliens being here is what? Good?????
We have told you that the ONE local newspaper will not cover or will leave out the details of anything involving illegals.
It's the Liberal media.
ohfertheluvva...did you do post-graduate work in missing the point?
BTW, it does occur to me that since you are posting without documentation, you must be an illegal immigrant.
Get back to me when you have a source.
Or a visa.
I personally do not know how traumatic the Hispanics injuries were.
And in doing so, they have shown more integrity by presumably omitting "facts" than you have by making them up.
