Expectant mom dies in collision
A 27-year-old expectant mother died in a head-on collision Sunday on U.S. 31 in Shelby County, authorities said.
Sarah Porter, 27, of Jemison died in the 11:20 a.m. accident, said Sgt. Tim Sartain, Alabama State Troopers spokesman. She was six months pregnant, said Doug Ballard Jr., Shelby County coroner.
Her husband, 29-year-old Heath Porter, remained in critical condition at UAB Hospital Sunday night, said Bob Shepherd, hospital spokesman.
Marco Guarviola, 26, address unknown, a passenger in the 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck that collided with the Porters' 2002 Volkswagen, was also taken to UAB Hospital, where he was listed as critical Sunday night, Shepherd said.
Manuel Valdez, 22, address unknown, who was also in the truck, was taken to Princeton Baptist Medical Center. Efforts to reach a hospital spokesman Sunday night were unsuccessful.
The accident, which occurred in the Saginaw community just south of Alabaster, is under investigation, Sartain said. He declined to provide details.
Several serious accidents have occurred at the site, Sartain said.
"I don't understand why so many accidents have occurred at this particular location," Sartain said. "Traffic is moderately heavy, but the street is a straight, two-lane stretch."
Accident fatalities are always sad, Sartain said.
"But this happening on Easter Sunday is such a tragedy," he said.

Asking for ~some~ evidence this person is actually illegal - which is the foundation on which you built your whole argument - is not in any way defending illegals. It's just being prudent before jumping on your bandwagon.
So stop it.
*grin*
Where has anybody defended illegals? You're just inventing things to argue about now. You just don't get it. *Of course* illegal immigration is a problem and our borders are not adequately protected. Duh?
If you want to keep pretending that this thread somehow has something to do with the border patrol, or immigration law... then please continue... but that's loony.
There are somewhere over 40,000 people killed in car accidents every year in this county. If you think that immigration law is the first place to look to do something about it, well, that's crazy talk.
We don't even know whose fault the accident was. But that doesn't matter, does it?
I really needed this.
My 18 year old son was killed in 1984 by an illegal alien and I can assure you all, the fact that this woman was killed on Easter Sunday will have no bearing on this tragedy. Whoever said that was just searching for something to say.
If you click on the link to the original story, you'll find that Full Court added the words "on Easter Sunday" to the headline - just as she added the words "Mexican immigrant".
The "Easter Sunday" part was added to achieve maximum emotional impact and backlash, IMHO.
yes I realize why it was added but to the family members it has no meaning what so ever.
Full Court, it couldn't be because you wrote the following in post #1 above, now could it:
The Birmingham news is famous for not covering any news relating to illegals, or trying to put a spin on it. They are very pro illegals.
Exactly. That's pretty much what we've been arguing this whole thread.
You're right.
I suspect Full Court's periodic absences from the thread are while he's/she's madly Googling away, trying, just trying to find a linkable source to justify the thread title.
LOL If I had read the whole thread I would have known that.
I've done Google and Nexis, and the two took about five minutes. There isn't much out there.
I wish her luck with that endeavor, although at this point it hardly matters.
The headline should not have been altered unless the facts were embedded in the article.
I also notice that she never answered my question in post 175 where I asked her if she thought the term "wetback" was acceptable.
My original post #189 was not ever addressed either. Probably refreshing the bandages on the scrapes folks get on their knuckles when they drag them.
*drums fingers on desk*
***no sound but crickets chirping tranquilly in the background***
I'm sure she'll be back any minute....
