Expectant mom dies in collision
A 27-year-old expectant mother died in a head-on collision Sunday on U.S. 31 in Shelby County, authorities said.
Sarah Porter, 27, of Jemison died in the 11:20 a.m. accident, said Sgt. Tim Sartain, Alabama State Troopers spokesman. She was six months pregnant, said Doug Ballard Jr., Shelby County coroner.
Her husband, 29-year-old Heath Porter, remained in critical condition at UAB Hospital Sunday night, said Bob Shepherd, hospital spokesman.
Marco Guarviola, 26, address unknown, a passenger in the 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck that collided with the Porters' 2002 Volkswagen, was also taken to UAB Hospital, where he was listed as critical Sunday night, Shepherd said.
Manuel Valdez, 22, address unknown, who was also in the truck, was taken to Princeton Baptist Medical Center. Efforts to reach a hospital spokesman Sunday night were unsuccessful.
The accident, which occurred in the Saginaw community just south of Alabaster, is under investigation, Sartain said. He declined to provide details.
Several serious accidents have occurred at the site, Sartain said.
"I don't understand why so many accidents have occurred at this particular location," Sartain said. "Traffic is moderately heavy, but the street is a straight, two-lane stretch."
Accident fatalities are always sad, Sartain said.
"But this happening on Easter Sunday is such a tragedy," he said.

No one has posted that here, but it is out in full force on other threads.
And this thread would have easily turned into that.
*snort*
Are you saying that FR has a problem with people hating hispanics?
Do tell... you were saying?
My concern is your interaction with me alone. You are a big enough girl to defend herself. Buck up, though. Arm yourself with FACTS, NOT EMOTION.
I have posted time and time again that one of the main points of this story is that the LIBERAL NEWS MEDIA, in this case, the Birmingham news LEFT OUT details which were reported on local TV and radio news.
Ok, you left us hanging there. Did the TV and Radio reports indicate that the bad guy WAS illegal? You never made it clear, and it was easy to assume that this was simply a rant with a racist tint.
Now, I want to help you out, because I dont think you are a troll, perhaps a new-ish freeper with a passionate cause. You apparently know more about the case than you have let on, and I dont think that was intentional, just a misunderstanding/miscommunication.
HAHAHAHAHAH!!!
What a marvelous catch!
You mean like when you called RMDupree and me illegal apologists who belong over at DU?
How do ~you~ know so much about DU anyway?
Thank you, that was an excellent post.
He came here legally years ago as a kid with his folks and is more against illegals from ANYWHERE, than I am and I am VERY STRONG against illegals. ALL OF THEM.
Quite frankly, I do not see much hate against Hispanics on FR. Just hatred of law breakers of whatever national origin.
Anyway, take it easy... regards, Lion.
Sadly, I do.
WRONG. WRONG. WRONG.
The WORST thing you can do to a cause is enable it to be associated with shallow racist garbage. Those little "understandable injustices" will KILL your cause.
Honestly, it's really not "my cause." You can check my screen name and see the things I tend to post about, and it isn't this too much.
This issue touched my heart because of the young mother and baby who died.
It hits home for me because my own mother died young and my husband and I had a baby who was born premature who did not survive.
And it is very frustrating to live in a city with only one local newspaper and watch them spin everytyhing and even leave out details just to put a positive spin on illegals.
If you care to look into my past postings one comment I remember making towards this issue is about how I think Mexicans work hard.
However, I have also said I do not think they should get free medical care.
So I am not some kind of one sided issue person, and I am not a racist, and I do not hate Mexicans.
You're so right. All of these stupid Americans just sit around and vent their anger on Free Republic. They're too cowardly to actually get up and do something about it. The government is not going to move against illegals, Americans are afraid of them. Learn to adapt and adjust folks. Otherwise, you're going to get into trouble.
I'll take your word for it. You didnt answer my question though, which might fix things a bit here. Did the radio/TV reports say the guy was in illegal alien?
Then perhaps next time, don't alter the title of your thread to draw people to be enraged about the race of one of the drivers in a car crash.
You aren't supposed to alter titles anyway. The way you altered the title, this article would not show up in a title search.
Let's cut to the chase:
Would it be proper to attend the funeral for this tragic young woman with a cadre of protestors carrying signs against illegal immigration? Grab the microphone and spout off about how horrible these illegals are?
Do you think the grieving husband would be consoled by such hijacking of the event, or annoyed?
That's only a more obvious extrapolation of what is happening here. Nobody likes illegal immigration, OK? Everybody thinks there should be a solution... but this *constant* hijacking of every possible thread nomatter how obtuse is *really* *really* getting old. I for one am sick of it.
When you find that I am personally involved in something like that, THEN you start throwing stones.
Until then, back off and stop lying about me and implying that I am guilty of the above.
