I wonder what the initial appeal of islam was to him. How did it sucker him in?

I didn't ask but I'm curious too.

American girls start wearing veils and convert to Islam because they have never experienced consequences. We have a no-fault society and converts to Islam don't expect any problems will arise that they can't handle.

Stupid is as stupid does.

That makes sense.

2nd the "it's not a conventional religion, it's a cult" comments.

One that is diametrically and irreconceivably opposed to Western ideas of individual rights and freedoms at that. And completely intertwined with the political realm.

Ten yers ago I would have argued that Christianity did some horrible things in the middle ages and we grew out of it.

But we don't really have centuries to allow for Islam, the way things are going.

Lefties throw that argument up all the time. They don't seem to understand that last, and the fact that there's a matter of degree involved. Also, there's the uncomfortable fact that nasty things done in the name of "Christianity" are generally un-Christian, and are decried as such, while nasty things done in the name of Islam are generally in keeping with the life and tenets of Mad Mo'.

You assume rationality on behalf of one who has none. That's where we in the West get ourselves into so much trouble.

>"I wonder - has Islam overall radicalized over the last century or have the Muslim nations just become welathier and started having more interaction with us and our allies?"<

-That's a good question, I think an argument can be made that both things have happened, simultaneously.

I read an article to that effect, if I find it, I'll ping you to it.

He has good reason to think otherwise.

From almost all that he can see in our news and media and the statements of most politicians, America will back down, as it has in every nontrivial war since World War II.

We are clearly saying that we will back down again, though almost every channel visible to a far away and deeply deceived lunatic. Only the words and actions of George W. Bush and a few of his hand picked aids have shown a will to resist. And Bush is only supported by some thirty odd and decreasing percent of the American people, if you believe the polls. All the other major powers, including Europe, Russia and China are already bought off. The United Nations is so irrelevant even a lunatic can see that much.

The backbone of America, so evident on this thread, is not visible to the President of Iran.

He's looking to pick a fight, to have the final passionate excuse to nuke Tel Aviv, to remove Israel from the inhabitable universe, and to finish the Holocaust that he denies Hitler began. Either he will wait to take action until Bush is out of the White House, or he will have enough nukes secreted away that can be gotten to Tel Aviv that he expects a couple to make it, even if his military and much of his nuclear capacity is decimated.

He's willing to loose many Iranians doing it.

He expects to win. He is willing, even eager, to destroy a nation and a people. He has many good reasons to doubt that America has the stomach for that, and even more good reasons to know that no other country left standing other than perhaps Israel has both the means and the stomach to stop him. China and Russia have the means but are more with him than against him in this war against the Great Satan - us.

We are writing an interesting chapter in future history books.

They have been radical murdering thugs and tyrants for 1300 years. For a good read, see Jihad in the West: Muslim Conquests from the 7th to the 21st Centuries by Paul Fregosi .

Oil money has reinvigorated the threat, but Jihad has been unrelenting against us heathens for over a millennium.

It is a cancer on civilization. I doubt there is a cure, only another hoped for remission. Many many more will die first.

There is a reason that Islam is so evil.

Other religions are set aside somewhat from government. Islam is both religion and governance. There is no check and balance constraining evil. The more powerful, less circumscribed, that government is, the more tyrannical it becomes. Islam is the end case.

In other religions one might ask if one has committed a sin by killing, even if in a justified war. Killing is bad, and must be justified.

In Islam, killing heathens is good. It is a holy act. One only waits to kill if one does not yet have the opportunity to kill, or at least enslave and subjugate, as many as one might hope.

The sacrament of Christians is the blood and body of Christ. The sacrament of Islamists is the blood and body of heathens - us.

Peace is not a strategic goal, but only a tactic, in times of weakness, to gain strength.

The combination of religion and ruling, the conviction that Islam is an all encompassing order of every aspect of life, is the fatal flaw of Islam. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Well this is awful because it leaves us with no good choices. We can do nothing and eventually Iran will get the bomb. We can go with 1000 sorties and not be sure we got everything plus we pay a big international price.

We can take over the whole country or nuke them and be sure but who wants another protracted ground engagement and after mid terms the resulting congress might not provide the money or the war powers approval.

If we preemptively nuke Iran we are writing off 60 years of world leadership and everything international we've built - oil may double or worse and we'll never get cooperation on anything again. American products will be boycotted the world over - the stock market will likely crash.

So if he is really that determined then the U.S. is gonna pay a big price one way or another and I may join my plumber in wishing we could have had a generation of peace before it all started.

We'll make it ok, if we remain true to our word, true to our faith, and unfailing in the fight for freedom. We may have to go through another chapter in the hell on earth book that humanity is writing.

We are ultimately stronger, in ways that Iran has no hope of matching, ever. Once the fear of defeat focuses the minds of enough people, we will win.

Iranian Alert - April 18, 2006 - Russia and China offer Iran to join their alliance

Regime Change Iran ^ | 4.18.2006 | DoctorZin
Top News Story Russia and China offer Iran to join their alliance. AsiaTimes reported that Iran will become full member of China and Russia's "Shanghai Cooperation Organization." The SCO's enlargement move would frustrate the entire US strategy in the region. The SCO is a security organization which will provide Iran with access to technology, increased investment and trade.   Iran confirms it is developing P-2 centrifuges. The Wall Street Journal reported that Iran now claims it was conducting research and tests on the more sophisticated P-2 nuclear-enrichment centrifuge which could significantly speed the process of making fuel for bombs....

I fear things will get worse before they get better.

Nobody at the mosque thinks Muslims could do 9/11. You have to look at who benefitted - we didn't benefit. The people who want war and wire tapping benefitted.

Germany didn't benefit from World War II, it lay shattered in ruins, while the United States prospered. Therefore, Germany can't have started World War II.

The suicide bombers aren't Muslims. Muslims can't kill women.

Yes, only beating women is permissible, or shooting them in the head when they refuse to wear a headscarf. By the way, I think the underlying message is that Muslims are perfectly capable of killing innocent men, even though your plumber is no terrorist.

The President of Iran is saying those things about Israel and the bomb to get President Bush to attack Iran. He (the Iranian president) doesn't care about his life or the lives of Iranians - he cares about the after-life.

Correct. He seeks to bring chaos and destruction, to see the return of the 12th imam.

A world war is coming and the war with Iran will be part of what sets it up - Syria and Pakistan will join the war on Iran's side.

In his dreams.

There are millions of people ready to die for Islam. They are all peaceful. Islam means peace. But when it clicks that the final war has started they will die for Islam.

Thank God, let them get themselves killed.

Ayatollah Khomeni captured the Shah of Iran and castrated him and paraded his head through the streets.

Historically incorrect, yes, but let's look at the stuff this guy made up. It seems as if liking gore (as well as Gore) is in Muslims' genes.

Muslims are peaceful people who just want to live a simple life. But when people stop them from living that life, when people won't leave them alone, they have to fight. They have to jihad.

BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
