The patentability of an invention is based upon novelty. That is why there are so many patents in your Karaoke link. Existing inventions can be improved upon in such a way that it is novel enough to warrant a patent, that is why there isn't just one karaoke patent.
I think the girl should girl through the process for no other reason than to learn about it.
