As an ex-Sailor who's been to the PI and around Filipinos a lot, my impression is that while PI women marry American men for finances, they're usually lifelong loyal wives. So if you can stand the fact that she may not really love you for you, hey, more than likely it'll last a lifetime and she'll at least probably be good to you. I knew a lot of guys in the Navy that married Filipinos, and most were older guys (not all), none of them model-handsome. The wives were always younger and prettier. But the PI wives were also less likely to screw around on them once we went to sea. So I've got mixed feelings about this.

As a service Plumber in San Diego (including Mira Mesa), that has seen this off and on for 30 years.

yours is the most accurate description of a situation with interracial potential baggage I've ever seen.

The Filipino women run the household and are strong, often stronger than the husband.

Being a southerner I naturally reacted to the stronger personlity, which when a Filipino woman was present was her.

In my little experience a lot of filipino women are drawn to the warrior class for women, nursing.

and the men are often drawn to combat military units.

That wasn't what I observed, either when I was stationed in Subic or back here in the states.

For example, when I was stationed in Subic, there was a cruiser homeported there named the USS Sterritt (sp). Whenever it pulled out of port, you could always be assured of seeing dozens of Filipina wives of the Sterritt crewmen down at the Sampaguitta (sp) enlisted club, near the main gate, picking up dates for the evening. A buddy of mine at the time did it once and almost got caught by her husband. Picked her up and went to her home up in base housing and had to hastily escape thru a back window when the husband pulled in. The wife told him the husbands ship was at sea :-)

I never hung out at the Sampaguitta enlisted club, other than going there for lunch one day when we were on the Subic side of the base for training (I was stationed up on the Cubi Point NAS side of the base). There were litterly dozens of Sterritt wives there already (at noon) looking for dates :-)

I've never understood why so many military men don't marry American women. There are plenty of sweet American women who would love their husbands and be loyal to them and not be marrying them for money or U.S. citizenship. Your theory is interesting, but I think there must be something more to this phenomenon.
