US Military Mission Important

Why is the military important in today’s world? This is a question too few Americans are asking. It is because they take our military for granted? Is it because we are in denial about the global threats to our national security?

A strong military is important to protect our nation against acts of terrorism and as a deterrent against aggression by rouge states. To defend our country, America needs a stronger fighting force. Military strength comes from more and better trained people and by maintaining a technological edge.

A weak military force makes us vulnerable to countries and groups that enjoy humiliating and bullying us. We need to put more effort into military preparedness and advanced training and technology so we will always have a ready fighting force.

Since 9/11 the military has become increasingly important. It was imperative that our forces enter Afghanistan to overthrow the Taliban. It was equally imperative that we launch a quick attack on Iraqi forces to depose Saddam Hussein. In the face of European criticism of our actions, the United States showed that we are a force to be reckoned with. In Iraq there is now an opportunity to learn about and experience a greater measure of liberty, and US forces are still trying to help the Iraqi people.

It’s our responsibility to support our nation’s war on global terrorism. We shouldn’t be against having a strong military. People who oppose a strong military are not well informed. They don’t understand the benefits of defense and readiness and how these have made us and kept us free. American soldiers should never have to suffer the way they did a Valley Forge because of lack of provisions and inadequate governmental support. The US military should be a high priority so that our forces are ready to deal with attacks and to oppose tyrants like Hitler and Saddam Hussein.

People who believe that getting rid of the military will bring peace are naïve. A powerful nation such as ours will make enemies. Some of those enemies have sworn to destroy us.

Why wouldn’t you want a powerful military ready to protect our citizens and our lands?
