Memphis police investigate homicide of convicted Alabama booster 4/11/2006, 12:44 p.m. CT By TERESA M. WALKER The Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Logan Young, the booster convicted of bribing a high school coach to get a top recruit for Alabama, was found dead Tuesday in his Memphis home, and police said they are investigating it as a homicide.

Memphis Police Sgt. Vince Higgins said in a telephone interview that the medical examiner was at Young's upscale home near a Memphis country club trying to determine the cause of death.

"We're treating it as a mystery homicide," Higgins said.

I guess it doesn't pay to mess with the NCAA. Mods, my second post...if I there are violations, please correct or delete.

My guess is that Logan's death had nothing to do with the NCAA.

Some years ago he was caught at the Memphis State field house with another rich man's wife. The husband bas chasing Logan with a shotgun and then proceeded to ran his very expensive car into Young;s very expensive new car.

My daughter called from her perch in an open window giving us a blow by blow play of the situation.

You live wild, you die wild. My guess is that it was another jealous husband getting his revenge.

...giving us a blow by blow play of the situation.

I hope that was just a bad choice of words.

LOL! For the life of me I cannot remember the cotton merchant's name that was involved. My daughter said that it was hilarious to watch those two tearing up brand new Jags.

Have to wonder if TennStud (Roy Adams) was involved in this. Both of these guys seemed very unbalanced.

According to Roy Adams, he and Logan Young were very good friends and liked to talk college football. Alabama beat Tennesee Peyton Manning's freshman year and Logan reportedly told TennStud that Manning wouldn't beat Alabama his whole career at Tennessee. Apparently Adams took great offense to this and the feud started.

Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, he did his freshman year when he shared time with Brandon Stewart.

Link to the story...I was off on the year but not that Tennessee lost to Alabama Peyton's freshman year. ESPN:How Vols Boosters Dug up the Dirt that sent Bama's Biggest Braggart to the Big House"

A defining moment in this scandalous mess came in 1995 when Peyton Manning, then a mere sophomore, led Tennessee to a 41-14 victory that ended a nine-year winless string against Alabama. As Adams recalls, a few weeks later Young invited him to meet at Folk's Folly, a popular steakhouse on Memphis' east side, and proceeded to spout what Adams' took as a declaration of war.

As I said before, Alabama beat Tennessee Peyton Manning's freshman year.

Listening to Roy Adams live on Paul Finebaum last evening, Roy states that the thing that started the feud was Young's declaration that he had spent all kinds of money on everything from horses to football teams, and the money he most regretted spending was the $100 he spent on flowers for Roy's mother's funeral.

It was amazing, however to listen and hear about what a great guy Logan Young was in one breath, followed by a diatribe on all of his shortcomings and poor behavior from Adams. Really classless on the heels of Young's death.

I don't mean to make Young out as a saint, but common decency would demand, it seems, some respect for the recently departed.

That shows you what bad guy that Roy Adams is as he is clearly lying - either on the radio show you heard or in the ESPN article that I linked earlier.

From the ESPN story...

"He'd been drinking, and he said, 'I want to tell you one God damn thing: Soon as Peyton Manning leaves y'all never beat Alabama again,' " recalls Adams, who admits to his own love of liquor. "And they had just gone through this [NCAA] investigation, had to forfeit 10 games the previous season. I had never said a negative word about Alabama or him to his face. It had built up and built up, frustration. I said, 'Let me tell you another God damn thing, we haven't been put on probation and had to forfeit games.' And that was the end of our 10-year friendship, over a damn football game. "If that didn't happen, I would have still covered for him.

I remember on back in 2000 on Gridscape how Adams would brag about having hottub parties with athletes. He said he was free to do anything he wanted as he was officially affiliated with Tennessee. He has a real affection for Cortez Kennedy who he bragged about sharing a hot tub with all the time.

The news is now saying that Logan Young was not murdered, but fell down the stairs and became disoriented and scattered his blood all over the house. It is a huge home. I wonder who got paid off to make this claim? Memphis is known for such antics

I've known a couple of unfortunate older folks who fell down stairs due to a lack of coordination or balance. None of them ended up so unrecognizable that they had to be IDed using dental records and fingerprints. They were bruised, had some broken bones, and one of them spent about 2 weeks in the hospital after their ordeal.

Sort of reminiscent of the old story of the poor guy who committed suicide by shooting himself 4 times in the back of the head with a shotgun. Kinda makes you wonder.
