The Jungle was first published in 1906 and is basically about a drunken gambling hobo named Jurgis that is in and out of prison and couldnt make a living on his own. Jurgis became infatuated with the idea of government helping him through socialism.
This is the book that is credited for starting what is today the FDA. His ideas from the book and his own personal life sparked the socialist party and prohibition. It is required or suggested reading in most public schools today.
If you dont want to read the dragged out boring parts of this book just read the last chapter and under stand this guy is a loser before he was in lighted with socialistic ideas.
