It looks as if the supply of AK 47 ammo has just dried the heck up!
Does anyone have any idea why? I hear venezuela is snapping it all up

Fortunately fer me I just got a new Dillon XL 650, and enough powder, primers, and bullets for another 50,000 rounds.

the orange mag is 5.45x39 I know. I've also watched the interview where Kalashnikov was as drunk as a skunk, and accidentally debunked the -74 (not overt, but implied).
Tovarich Kalashnikov was a pretty smart guy when he was sober. He invented a great firearm. He deserved the 'Hero of the Soviet Whatever' medal that was awarded. I'd buy him vodka, if he was around.
Don't forget to celebrate November 10th, November 22nd, and January 21st. Great days in history.
Mikhail, Eugene, and John Moses.

There seems to be some around at inflated prices thanks, but supplies are dwindling for some reason

No excuses, then... With your own range, you should spend more on ammo each month than Vermont does. 8>)

The 74 round is a bit weaker than .223 but has more mass

In my humble opinion.... 7.62x39 has proved itself, in the round and the firearm(s). SKS, AK, AR-15(in 7.62x39... pricey). As well as the accoutrements.
I'd rather have a 30-30 lever than a -74.
You can have whatever you want, and I encourage you to have lots of them... whatever you are happy with...
But for me and mine... I'll stick with .22, 7.62x39, 7.62x54, 50BMG, and 12 gauge(short ones).
Just my opinion.

I'll stick with what I've found to be useful in the field.
After all... I am just a cook.
We won't discuss knives.

Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your viewpoint), my wife is a crack shot. She handles my MP5A3 and Glock 18 like she was born with them attached. The deal is I spend my money on the guns, and handload.........a lot!

If you ever spend a week of standing on your feet doing prep-b!tch work, you will find the lightest, handiest, easiest to sharpen chef's knife available. I promise. Cross my heart.
And then, your second week, you will hock your mother to buy a Japanese razor-blade on steriods, because it's so much easier, faster, and lighter. (I redeemed Mom before they sold her).
And if anyone touches your good knives, you will think about where they would best planted.
Been there, done that.
I have a $32 German knife for the rookies to borrow. The good stuff stays with me.
