To me the most remarkable thing about DiMaggio's hitting streak and Williams batting .406 was that they both occurred in the same season.

I know that back in the olden times pitchers had more advantages (higher mound, no performance-enhancing drugs for hitters), but I've always thought that hitters back then were better than today. Far more .300+ hitters, and even though the HRs were less, there were far more RBIs to be had. Another record that I can't see being broken is Hack Wilson's 191 RBI in a season. Likewise, I doubt there will ever again be a .400 hitter. But I would love it for someone to come out of nowhere and prove me wrong.
