Maybe they should put their own people to work excavating their own history." I think you're talking about Caral. That's the second oldest pyramid ever found and the oldest in the Americas. The oldest pyramid is in Greece.

as early as 2627 B.C. and until about 2000 B.C., even before ceramics and maize were introduced to the region. (By comparison, the Great Pyramid of Khufu in Egypt was built between 2600 and 2480 B.C.) While semi true, the Great pyramid was not even close to being the first built in Egypt.
