Another one of Dasher's Friends has lived through a harrowing experience. This plane is probably one of the most beautiful new airplane designs to come around in years.
My heart breaks for him.

'Relentless' Down In NM; Pilot Safe

Wed, 12 Apr '06

ANN REALTIME REPORTING 04.12.06 1620EST -- Aero-News has confirmed the pilot of "Relentless", the Nemesis NXT racer that was apparently destroyed during an emergency landing attempt in southwestern New Mexico Tuesday, was the aircraft's builder, Kevin Eldridge.

Fortunately, Eldridge was able to evacuate the aircraft after landing, and was not injured in the incident.

The FAA reports the aircraft was on fire when Eldridge brought it down.

An alert News-Spy sent along the following FAA Preliminary Report, indicating that the Nemesis NXT racer "Relentless," exhibited last week at the Sun 'N Fun Fly-In in Lakeland, FL, experienced problems over New Mexico Tuesday.

The report indicates the pilot -- whose identity has not been confirmed -- is safe after being forced to attempt an emergency landing on a dirt strip near Glenwood, NM after reporting a fire onboard the plane.

"Relentless" was on display throughout Sun 'N Fun, and air racer Jon Sharp also demonstrated the aircraft during Thursday's "Showcase" flyover that preceded the daily air show.

The Nemesis NXT (which stands for Neoteric eXperimental Technology) is a two place, retractable gear, single engine, kit airplane of all molded carbon fiber construction, allowing a very sleek aerodynamic profile. Designed and built as an air racer, "Relentless" was powered by a Lycoming TI0-540-NXT engine, driving a racing-spec Hartzell propeller.

Oh, man, that's a bummer. I'll have to link ANN over on my web site.

I had thought until recently that the pilot here was the "Kevin Eldridge" that I knew from Chino Ca. that flew (and bailed out from) the Super Corsair. But I caught a picture of this guy and he's not the Kevin I know.

Thanks for the heads up.

I just talked to him and he said, "Strong airplane - Lucky Pilot".

My heart breaks for him and Sean, losing their "babies".

Until I started my web site (don't want to advertise it on JimRobs dime, but it has "hangarview" in it), I didn't realize how many crashes there were.

There's been 4 F-16 crashes, 1 C-5 crash, Tucker and now Eldridge. And so far, everybody survived. What a month.

I added some detail to the C5 thread also - if you want to look over there.

I'll see if I can a website called hangarview on my own.

"Pilot safe" is the important part...the airplane can always be replaced.

I heard that the damage may be only wing and gear.

She might not be completely lost.

Sigh.

Wow! Life on the edge.....

I think, btw, Seans' post-crash interview videos should be part of the ASF's (Air Safety Foundation) offering as his step-by-step emergency analysis/situational awareness is a classic study.

Happy both pilots lived to tell about it!
