That's all there is at this source. I'll look around for more.

Notes to self:
1. Do not use live rounds for paperweight.
2. If I do use live rounds for paperweight, do not take to school.
3. If I do use live rounds for paperweight AND take to school, do not strike round sharply.
4. If I do take live round to school to use for paperweight and intend to strike sharply, ask students to leave the room.

Back where I come from, 40mm is called a "grenade"

Heck of a paperweight. He's lucky he only lost part of his hand.

The fuse on this 40mm WWII round is inactive, see, watch while I hit it with this hammer!

Robert Colla struck the round with an object
I once sounded off about a rifle round going off in a clothes dryer and all the resident FR gun experts sounded the BS alarms and ranted that it is impossible for this to happen yada yada yada.
My biggest fear was that the gun grabbers would read that thread and use it against us.

It's obviously the fault of the manufacturer. Expect all bullets to now come with a warning label in bright red print stuck to it and each bullet wrapped in a child proof/theft proof plastic casing.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. This guy is lucky to have that little damage from a blooker round.
On CAMPEN in mid-1980 we had a Marine who went out to the grenade range with a buddy (202-A, I think) at around 1 in the morning, drunk as a skunk, and they were wandering around in the impact area. This guy picked up what he later described as a "golden golf ball", and that was the last thing he remembered.
He won't make that mistake again. Cost of the lesson: Right arm up to the elbow, right eye, some teeth, and some neat scarring patterns that you just can't get any other way.

He cant have known that was a live round much less a 40mm he had for a paperweight. Good thing it was not a 105mm he had there.

Wow. Stupid enough to keep a live 40mm (yikes, that's 40mm!) round on his desk and even more stupid to hit it with something. I agree with the Darwin Award comments. We have ourselves an official Darwin Award nominee for '06.
