Anyone know about Metacam for cats? Our vet prescribed two days of the stuff for our Bob who had a swollen paw. Now he's complaining about wanting more of the drug. :-)

metacam (meloxicam) is an antiinflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic drug that is used principally in the treatment
of osteoarthritis in dogs. It is used in cats, however there is much less info on cat use than dog use.

Short term dosing is usually recommended-followed by a tapering off and then maybe a 2-3 times a week dose.

If your kittys health is compromised in any way there can be problems. If his kidneys aren't doing well then this drug would not be for him.

My personal experience-I have an 18 year old diabetic cat with severe spondalosis in her back. I tried metacam and
she threw up bloody bile for 3 days. Yick.

Good luck!!
