TV Set Crashed (Need HELP!)

When I say my TV crashed I mean it actually CRASHED!!! What happened is that I was moving the TV table my 21" TV was resting on. Suddenly it fell forward onto the floor. Electronically I think it is okay but in the process of tumbling forward the cable connection got yanked out of the back of the TV and got and messed up (which is why it didn't hit the floor hard).
Okay, I just set up another TV I have stored away but it is only 17". I would like to get the 21" TV set up and running again but can't because of the messed up cable connector in the TV. What I want to know is if it is possible to hook up that white, red, and yellow small connectors that I ran from my DVD player to the TV and run those same connectors from my cable box to the TV. Would that work as an alternative to the coaxial cable?

Of course, I think regular TV sets are now fairly cheap due to the fact that the HDTV and Plasma TVs are getting promoted. Anyway, any help in this would be appreciated. Thanx in advance.

If you have a VCR or DVD-R or similar receiver you should be able to attach the cable to that and then run the red, white and yellow connectors to your TV. That is, if I correctly understand what the problem is, here!

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.
Actually, the only thing I know about tv's is that they can blow up, so I only watch them.
(My dad used to be a tv repairman.)

I did the same thing with a small tv, only I was moving it and thought it was just hung on something and yanked the connector out. I thought it would cost too much to have the connector soldered back in so I bought another small tv.
In your case it might not be cheaper. Take it to a tv repair shop, if you can find one. They will tell you up front how much it will cost and then decide if it's worthwhile to repair it.

The best thing you could do would be to rack the slide,
place the safety in the FIRE position and put it out of
it's misery.
You and it will be a LOT happier.
I haven't had a TV since I discovered FR in 98, I put
my 21" console out on the street and some poor addicted
soul carted it away in ten minutes, sad really.
Ps. I'm not addicted to FR, I can quit ANY time I want.

Shouldn't be a problem.
1. Many cable boxes, and most digital cable boxes, have the Y-R-W RCA cable outputs. Plug those into the Y-R-W RCA cable input on your tv. Make sure your tv is tuned to look for the signal from the RCA jacks, either toggle through the options using the 'input' button on the tv remote, or go through the channels with the channel up button on the remote until it gets to the rca jacks and you can see the video and hear the sound.
2. Alternately, if you have a vcr or a DVD Recorder (which are excellent and you can get a nice Panasonic for like $ 150 or so at Circuit City), you can send the signal from your cable box to either the vcr or DVD recorder via coax cable or the RCA cables, and then set up the RCA jack outputs from either the VCR or the DVD Recorder to the RCA inputs on the back of your tv. Toggle through as in #1 until you get the signal.

You could internalize these trying times in your life and commission a satirical comic strip based upon these life experiences.
Or you could do exactly what you said, cable from street->cable box->dvd/vhs player->tv
I advise using high quality cable, the extra $10 at radio shack is worth it.

That is, if I correctly understand what the problem is, here! I have a DVD but it doesn't record. How about if I run the three wires from cable box to TV? WAIT! I do have a VCR that I almost never use. Maybe that will do the trick!

I'll try the VCR to TV method when I get a new TV table in a few days. Right now my TV table is messed up. I stuck my 17" TV on it for now but I don't think in its condition it can hold the 19" set.

So should I run the coaxial cable from my cable box to my VCR and run the three W R Y wires my VCR to my TV?

oops I see you have a cable box.
I might work with wall cable to input on cable box,
output on cable box to input on DVD player,
then use the 3 output jacks on dvd player to 3 input on TV. You may not need all three. (red, yellow, white)

Same as above for VCR (just replace DVD player with VCR.)

when you get to the 3 jacks one of them may not be needed. (all 3 plugged in may cause it not to work) So play around with only using 2.
Does your TV have a super coaxial connection? (this would be the easiest way if VCR or DVD player also has the super coaxial)

Sure, or if your cable box has RCA plugs, run the RCAs all the way.

Also, check the settings on the vcr to make sure its getting the signal and passing it through.
