A 9-week-old kitten in El Cajon, Calif., is expected to win a place in the record books as the smallest cat in the world, according to a Local 6 News report.

Heed the cat is only 3-inches tall and weighs in at just 1.2 pounds, the report said.

Once Heed is full-sized in about six months, veterinarians believe he will become the new smallest cat in the world. Heed's owner has already contacted the Guinness Book Of World Records. Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.

I've heard Maine Coons are so gentle they could be bullied by a mouse. :-)

Hah. Not mine. They called him "Mr." Brian. When the neighbors had houseguests who brought their Rottweilers, the Rotties were fed out by the garage. Brian sashayed up to see what they had in their dish, and one of them chased him off. The neighbor went running after them, because he didn't want to have to tell me his friend's dogs ate my cat, but he said before he could catch up, the dog came running back the other way, with Brian in hot pursuit.

He had been declawed before I got him, so it was pure arrogance. He's been gone over five years now & I miss him every day.

Ours has figured out how to open closed doors using door handles.

Brian grasped the doorknow principle perfectly - he'd get up on his back legs and put one front paw on each side of the knob. If he'd been able to get any traction on it, it would have worked.

:-) Great story. You know how cats take that blow-fish attitude when angry/scared. I can't imagine how big a Cooner looks when puffed up. Probably looks like an average-sized bear!

If he had an opposed thumb he could turn the knob.

Our non-Maine Coon foundling that lived to be 20 years old could open doors. He figured out how to slide the sliding doors; he could hit bi-fold doors just at the right point to make them pop open; and, he would do his best to turn doorknobs.

Cats are remarkably intelligent ... especially when they have intelligent owners who communicate well with them.
