It was my understanding that dogwoods are relatively easy to maintain. I believe it's also our state tree. So am somewhat annoyed especially when I see so many flourishing.

Is the lilac tree also known as the butterfly bush or is it different. Does it have the lilac fragrance? If so, I am going to have to find one. I love the lilac fragrance. I thought I saw a pic of your garden somewhere. It looked pretty nice. Set up as a "getaway" of sorts? That's what I've been trying to do here. I've got bushes and flowers in the yard but would like something a little cozier (read: easier to take care of) around the outdoor table. Am probably going to do more container gardening this time.

Lilac and Butterfly are two different bushes. Lilac has the sweet smell.

I cannot do anything in the front yard at all so I take my solace in the back yard.. when I don't have to share it with other tenants.
It's not a problem really, they are all grad students so always gone. ;)

My haven of rest.

The bush with the Shepard's hook in the middle is the Lilac.
