‘Idol’ producers pondered pink-slipping Paula

When last we left “American Idol” loopy lady Paula Abdul, she was blaming her fellow judge Simon Cowell for whispering silly things in her ear that made her appear dazed and confused.

Apparently, the “American Idol” producers weren’t buying her explanation and were this close to firing the diminutive ditz earlier this month.

“Paula was being very difficult,” an “Idol” source told US Weekly. “(She was) crying all the time and arriving late for meetings.”

The set spy reported the show’s execs discussed dumping Abdul and replacing her with a fresher face.

“(They) liked Jessica (Simpson) a lot,” the spy dished. “And some were pushing for Britney (Spears).”

Whoa. That’s all Paula needed to hear! She immediately sought medical attention and was allegedly treated for “exhaustion and dehydration.”

Her rep denied the allegations, insisting that “everyone (on ‘Idol’) loves her,” adding that “if they were looking at Britney or Jessica, that’s news to me.”

allegedly treated for “exhaustion and dehydration”

On a more serious note, I don’t want to make assumptions here, but “dehydration” can be a symptom of alcohol abuse. I know this from past personal experience.

Poor Paula. I like her but she has admitted to a previous prescription drug abuse problem– hasn’t she? She’s also battled an eating disorder in the past and addiction and compulsive disorders often go hand in hand. And some of her recent behavior has been a bit erratic. If she has a problem, I hope she gets help and the producers don’t enable her just for the ratings – but it wouldn’t surprise me if they do – train wrecks are good TV to these people and the people who watch. Don’t we all love the Idol auditions because we love watching the really bad singers humiliate themselves – don’t we?

If Paula is ditzy, then there are no words that can adequately describe Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson. Pleeze!

If they want a train wreck, I would lobby for Whitney Houston. At least she has talent – or used to, before the drug abuse.

Ass annoying as Paula is, Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson would be WAY worse and are not idol Judge material.

Paula is/was a real start at one time, and, despite her ditziness knows the music business and knows the music business pretty well. If they were to replace Paula and put in either of those two, it would be obviously because of their looks and not their knowledge (of which they have none.

It would damage Idol's credibility as a legit talent competition.

I think that they should stick with paula, as annoying as she is, and just deal with it, up the dosage of her meds or whatever they have to do. But hey, my favorite judge is Randy, what do I know?
