She just seems fake. It's like she has a wall up between her and the audience. That doesn't work when performing music. She just seems very detached and distant.
Yes, I agree. McPhee is all that, but something else too. I want to use a word I normally reserve for politicians -- smarmy. It's part and parcel of being fake, but with an added touch of something darker.
