Please pray on this day, and every day, for our Patriot Armed Forces standing in harm's way around the world in defense of our liberty, and for the families awaiting their safe return.
Thanks don-o for posting that. I love the stories about ""Back In The Day""
Terry Labonte also has an article on Nascar.com right now about his races with Sr at Bristol.
Love the story about Herm getting lost because he took too long in the bathroom unrolling tp. lol
Also, they have trucks on the track trying to get it dry. Practice is on weather delay.
A silly millimeter longer...
One of my earliest NASCAR memories was Dacid Pearson and Cale getting into a fistfight on the backstretch at Darlington. At least I think I remember that (ABC's Wide World of Sports would show highlights of the previous Sunday's race the next Saturday.)
Just maybe - but if they get practice in, I bet somebody(s) are going to wreck their cars on a very cold green track.
Watching trackside now.....What is up with that guy's left eye? And what about those comments that Harvick made....LOL!
Byrnes has a sinus infection which has made his eye swollen for the last two weeks.
Kevin was priceless during that interview today. He said Kurt should remember Spencer punching him out a few years ago. Also said he would personally like to whip his a$$ and that Kurt was making a fool of Penske. Then said twice, I shouldn't have said that...laughing. DeLana was giving him the evil eye so he shot one last punch saying it's not hard to make fun of a guy who's had his ears pinned.
They are thinking of cancelling qualifying which will be bad news for Robby Gordon. Next year they will shorten this 5 race point system rule, wait and see.
Correction on that, Robby should be safe.
Qualifying is canceled.
Thanks WCG! Sounds painful.
From all the stuff I've looked at Sunday looks pretty good. Never can tell with weather though.
Forecast discussion at the NWS site says it's gonna be damp through tomorrow. Dry by Sunday.
Here's the print of the Kevin interview, I'm sure it's gonna make a lot of waves and the officialdom of Nascar will be watching them on Sunday.

Kevin Harvick unloads on Kurt Busch, says a 'whooping' is way overdueBy JIM UTTERThe Charlotte ObserverBRISTOL, Tenn. - Kevin Harvick apparently has some pent-up frustration remaining from an on-track incident with Kurt Busch and David Stremme on Monday at Atlanta.
When asked at the end of a news conference Friday if there was any perception about him that he would like to correct, Harvick said: "I think I would have whooped Kurt Busch before now. Obviously, he forgot about getting punched in his nose last time from Jimmy Spencer.
"I probably shouldn't have said that," Harvick added to a room full of laughter. "I'll still tell you what I think. I'd still like to whip his ass. Before the year's over, he'll make a fool out of Roger Penske. It's hard not to pick on a guy when his ears are pinned back."
Early in Monday's race at Atlanta, Harvick was caught in the middle, with Busch on the outside and David Stremme on the inside. When Stremme moved up the track, bringing Busch and Stremme both into Harvick, the No. 29 Chevrolet was damaged.
Busch was not immediately available Friday for comment.
Here's the audio.......http://www.racingone.com/audio/KevinHarvick%20Kurt%20Busch.mp3
What the article doesn't mention that I posted at the end of the Atlanta thread is Kurt's radio transmissions using the "F" word several times toward Kevin after that incident on the track. What Kurt didn't bother to check was that Kevin was forced up into Kurt by Stremme.
Yay!! Back In The Day marathon. Buddy Baker hosing himself down with the water hose INSIDE the car. LOL Hot day at the Charlotte 600

CHARLOTTE -- Gentleman, start your ... projectors?
"Cars," the latest animated offering from Disney and Pixar, will premiere May 26 on four giant outdoor screens at Lowe's Motor Speedway in suburban Charlotte, studio and track officials said Thursday. The debut will come two nights before the track hosts the Coca-Cola 600, with proceeds from the 30,000 tickets benefiting Speedway Children's Charities.
The racing-themed "Cars" is the work of John Lasseter, director of "Toy Story," "A Bug's Life" and "Toy Story 2." The film features the voices of Paul Newman and Owen Wilson, as well as NASCAR drivers Richard Petty and Darrell Waltrip.
Even speedway president H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler _ who never met a promotional opportunity he didn't embrace _ contributes to the film, voicing the character of "Tex," a 1975 Cadillac Coupe de Ville.
"This is a fantastic film that celebrates everything that we love about cars, and it also gives us a unique view of the world of competitive racing," Wheeler said Thursday.
The premiere, which Disney and Pixar are billing as the first multiple-screen digital cinema premiere ever, will involve some technological derring-do in Turn 2 of the speedway, where four 50-foot-high by 115-foot-wide outdoor screens are to be constructed.
The film will be projected on Texas Instruments DLP Cinema projectors and a special sound system is being installed for the event.
"Cars" features Wilson as the voice of Lightning McQueen, a hotshot rookie race car who ends up detoured in the sleepy town of Radiator Springs on his way to the compete in the Piston Cup Championship.
"I have loved automobiles and the world of racing for a long time and 'Cars' is a very personal story to me," Lasseter said. "This premiere event is the perfect way to debut our film to racing and movie enthusiasts."
"Cars" comes in the midst of a rash of NASCAR-themed Hollywood films. Last year's "Herbie: Fully Loaded" put Lindsay Lohan and the Volkswagen Beetle in the midst of the NASCAR racing scene, while "Talladega Nights," slated for an August release, is a NASCAR-themed Will Ferrell comedy.
Disney is in the midst of acquiring Pixar in an all-stock deal valued at $7.4 billion.

In the day, showing a race from BRISTOL perhaps back in early 70's?? There ain't nothing around that track, only about 20 seats!! You can SEE the hills around the track!
Does this mean no more Charger, Monte Carlo, Taurus, etc.?
Will everyone be in the same model of cars?
It was from 1973, Cale Yarborough in the 11 car led ALL 500 laps...green to Checkers...the ONLY driver to ever do that!
Here's a few words from Inside Racing NewsAT THIS LINK

The Car of Tomorrow began as a design five years ago, progressing through simulation, laboratory and wind tunnel tests. Of primary significance are the safety innovations: the Car of Tomorrow is four inches wider and two inches taller than current NASCAR race cars. The driver compartment, or roll cage, has been shifted three inches to the rear. The drivers seat has been shifted four inches to the right, allowing more protection from a drivers side impact. More crush-ability is built into the car on both sides, ensuring even more protection.
The Car of Tomorrow exhaust system is another safety innovation. It runs through the body, diverting heat away from the driver and exiting on the right side.
Another important Car of Tomorrow feature is performance how the car handles in traffic and reacts to downforce. The project represents the latest move by NASCAR to reduce current cars aerodynamic dependence, and several innovations have addressed it:
The windshield is more upright, designed to increase the amount of drag, thereby slowing the cars. The more box-like front bumper, which is three inches higher and thicker, catches air rather than deflecting it, another way to slow the car. The air intake is below the front bumper, which eliminates the problem of overheating. Wind-blown trash can cover current car grilles, blocking air flow.
Several components both those built into the Car of Tomorrow and those being tested will make the car easier to drive in traffic. Some of those components also are bolt-on, bolt-off pieces that teams can use to tune their cars, making them cost-efficient as well. Those include:
The splitter, a flat shelf below the front bumper that can be adjusted. A wing, like those commonly used in sports car series, also is a possibility. It fits on the cars rear deck lid, in the same spot where the spoiler is bolted. The spoiler, a NASCAR staple, is a straight line on the Car of Tomorrow, rather than curved, as on current cars. A straight spoiler yields more stability in traffic.
