someone released that statement saying he was quitting

Speculation was that it was a Scientologist "handler." According to that report, the Scientologists have somebody with him nearly all the time. Of course, that's typical of cult groups that they monitor their followers (not that I'm saying $cientology is a cult group).

It looks like there might be more to this story than we've been told.

I'm sure that it was a cult minder that did it, but if Hayes was incapacitated or unaware, I don't think it was a rumor mill getting out of hand kind of thing. An official statement was issued, and even now that's all we have to go on. Hayes hasn't been in front of a camera to say yay or nay yet. It's even right now all speculation as to his true status regarding the show.

This could be an epiphany for Hayes. Here he's found out that his cult has canceled his income stream against his wishes, and I'm sure the pressure will be on by the cult to stick to the program. This could be the best thing to ever happen to Hayes.

I'll say it. It's a cult group.

Here's an even better statement from Matt & Trey per CNN:

"So, Scientology, you have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for Earth has just begun," the pair wrote.

"Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies. Curses and drat! You have obstructed us for now, but your feeble bid to save humanity will fail! Hail Xenu!!!"

One of CNN's Entertainment reporters also suggested Snoop Dogg as a replacement for Hayes. Chef-izzle would be such a polar opposite, I think it could work!

I hope South Park gives scientology both barrels.
