Hey - I think it's too bad that more dogs aren't dual purpose. All it takes to un-embed it from the thinking is to make it untrue by proving the dogs can do their job in addition to looking beautiful before breeding them. Many breeders do that.

My only point was to counter the argument that AKC show people are assumed to be responsible in their breeding decisions. They aren't, they've made lots of detrimental breeding decisions that have been very harmful to some breeds.

You throw the word they around, which indicates all of them. You are just flat out wrong. Many breeders I know (including myself) breed for traits other than looks. You could do some research and find this out if you chose to. However, don't be surprised if I take that as a personal affront, since I am one of they and by golly my dogs have been titled in obedience and field as well as conformation, and I know alot of people who do multiple venues with their goldens. In fact, in order to encourage this the Golden Retriever Club of America started a versitily title that is eagerly sought by many *conformation* people. susie

Many conformation people in my breed, go on to other titles after their dogs receive their championships.

There are hunting titles, obedience, and agility, just to name a few.
