DISGRACEFUL....The U.S.A. goes down 2-1 to Mexico who were the heavy underdog....team U.S.A. with all of its heroes manages to lose to Canada...Korea...and Mexico...and is eliminated.
The country that created baseball goes home.We lose with the greatest players available against day laborer baseball players. What is it with american super teams...the U.S. olympic hockey and basketball teams....and now this disgrace.

"What is it with american super teams...the U.S. olympic hockey and basketball teams....and now this disgrace."Chemistry....
And they never seem to be as hungry as the other national teams.

Why do you think at the end of the day there is no chemistry and lack of national pride? I mean after watching some of these WBC games the U.S. team really came off as spoiled brats...if there was ever a time when the U.S. needed a victory on the global stage ala 1980 USA Vs Russia...it would have been this.

It just seems like we are dominated with these "super team" match up's.

To them these games mean a lot. Let them enjoy it if America doesn't. America could care less.
Let one of these "teams" play the World Series champion, in a seven game series, for big money.
It would be a four game wipeout by the US.

The games that matter start in early April.
The All-Star game is a colossal bore because there is no chemistry between the players and they're not making any money.
UN Baseball is ridiculous, and likely won't be repeated.

They ARE "spoiled brats" on vacation.

    They
looked like it was the first week of spring training. ......no rhythm, no timing, no nothin'. Rusty as can be. A lot of players on the Latin American teams play winter ball, so they're far more prepared. As hole_n_one mentioned, if this were played around the All-Star break we'd see a completely different team.
I agree, this whole tourney should be dumped.

If the US puts the same team on the field at the All Star break rather that at the the start of spring training, the US rolls over everybody......easily.

These guys play for 6 months. How out-of-shape can you really get? Plus, wouldn't major leaguers that played on other teams be in the same situation?

I think what would improve dramatically after playing 80+ games would be the results on offense.
The hitting was anemic.

Never could understand why someone would bring a phone to a ball game.

The hitting was anemic. You're absolutely right and the limited number of at bats and kid glove handling of the players doesn't help.
While the US team was loaded with excellent players many other great players chose not to participate and a couple of positions could have been upgraded with better participation.
That and if Dontrelle Willis didn't get hammered in two starts could have made a difference.

Our hitting just didn't come through when needed, Dontrelle Willis stunk up the two games he pitched (win one of them, D-Train, and we're in the semis), and frankly, Buck Martinez did a lousy managing job. He had no strategy for when the homers weren't coming.

All in all, this team should have done much better.
