There are 8 Guinness in the box I got.

Cans or bottles, Victoria?

Took today off. Having a big dinner party tonight with my boss and his wife, another colleague and his wife, friend, and my daughter and her college roomate.

Gotta get cracking.

Victoria, do you celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph?

Happy St.Paddy's Day to you, and to all.

I'll be spending mine en route to Shannon, so I can't be drinking my usual 1.5 dozen pints in celebration today.

Colosis, do me a big favor tomorrow morning - make sure there's someone not hungover in the control tower during our approach and landing, ok?

From this descendent of the Scots-Irish I bid you all a very HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY. Now my family has been In America since the early 1700’s – so why am I proud to be of this Scots-Irish lineage? Because of the type of people they were. Read this quote.

“If all else fails, I will retreat up the valley of Virginia, plant my flag on the Blue Ridge, rally around the Scotch-Irish of that region, and make my last stand for liberty amongst a people who will never submit to British tyranny whilst there is a man left to draw a trigger. “

George Washington, at Valley Forge.

So as I sit at our dinner table tonight gorging on our once a year treat of home-made Guinness Beef Stew, I will thank God for our people, and thank him for sending them to America early our history to help shape it into the great country it became.

Now to you all….

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields, and
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Erin Go Braugh

Thanks Karen.

Just got back from washing my car. Have State Farm agent coming over later to take a look at the damage from the accident on Monday.

We've already had estimates, so am assuming he should be in the ballpark, but with other agents you never can tell.

Took youngest daughter to school as well. Gotta start preparing Irish Soda Bread, and getting the house in shape.

Have the menu pretty much set for this evening:

Corned beef

Cabbage

Red Potatoes

Carrots

Irish Soda Bread

Irish coffees

A possible Apple Tart I'll make from a restaurant recipe from Killkenny's in Dublin. Still unsure...

Any ideas?

Top of the morning to ye,and the rest of the day to meself.
Happy St. Patrick's Day to all. No dispensation in Big D, so it will be Salmon cooked over Mesquite coals and plenty of ice tea to wash it down. Looks like we're going back to Ireland in Oct/Nov, should be fun.

blueroze--

Back in January, right after New Year's by a couple of days (Jan 4, actually), you expressed concern for your friend here in the States who was in Shamrock, OK.

When I started to make a post about the St. Patrick's Day celebrations and parades in Shamrock, TX, which will not be "happy" this week, after the terrible fire tragedies that have taken place all around *that* Shamrock, I remembered *your* friend's Shamrock in Oklahoma.

What was the outcome of that? Did you ever talk to her or find out more about her little town? By the time I found anything written up about it (population: 100) that evening, the residential section of town was up in flames and I posted to you right away.

We know now there weren't any fatalities, but I hoped that her home was still standing. Reports said they lost several structures.

Hope you see this and can respond with an update. Supposedly, they have always had a big party and parade for St. Patrick's Day, even with so few residents. I'd love to hear that they're OK and went on with the plans.

There was a special hotel here in town called the Shamrock Hilton, built by an oilman as the largest in the world at the time. It was decorated in 63 shades of green. The oilman was Irish, thus the green and thus, the name Shamrock.

Eventually, it was bought by Conrad Hilton and was his first hotel, the Shamrock-Hilton. Playgirl Paris Hilton probably wouldn't be who she is now if it weren't for that hotel. It was the center of everything in the 1950s-60s.

Then, 20 years ago today, on St. Patrick's Day, 1986, it was imploded and destroyed to make room for more of the Texas Medical Center. It was very sad for everyone, especially my Dad who used to office next door to it--he went out there and video'ed the demolition, along with lots of other locals. He died 3 years later.

Hope this finds you well and having a good St. Patrick's Day there in the Isles.
