Stone isn't being two faced. South Park makes fun of everyone.
South Park can definately be considered offensive. But they are equal opportunity offenders.
I have no problem with Hayes choosing to quit the show because he disagreed with one of their episodes. However, I don't think Stone's comments about Hayes are unreasonable either. Hayes had no problem with the show making fun of other religions. He only had problems with them making fun of his.
Hayes has made a considerable amount of money working on a show that has made a habbit of making fun of everyone. Hayes is able to consider the bashing of other religions to be light hearted entertainment, but when it comes to his own religion he has a different standard.
Doesn't sound like Stones comments were unreasonable to me.
Hayes became offended 4 months after the fact, in a manner reminiscent of the muslums becoming enraged at the cartoons. I think either Lord Wotan or one of the higher ups in the Scientology structure has come down on him like a box o' bricks.
Excuse me, that's Lord Xenu, I was mistaken.
Taranto in the WSJ said it almost as well as Stone did:
"Well, after all, it's one thing to mock Jews, Muslims, Mormons, Catholics, Evangelicals, blacks, gays, whites, Mexicans, Asians, Canadians, Frenchmen, people with birth defects, women, transsexuals, Democrats, Republicans, lawyers, cops, cows, people with red hair and freckles, goths, the handicapped and fat kids. But satirizing Scientology--that's just intolerant!"
