This reminds me of the phony controversy over the movie "The Life of Brian" by Monty Python.

A bunch of zealots mistake some guy named Brian for the messiah and follow him around like fools for days until the Romans execute him because they also think he's the messiah when all he wants to do is be left alone.

The movie satirizes religious fanatics who mistake the mumbo jumbo of religious extremism for morality.




after note: When I was a freshman in college, I was dating a girl for about 2 months when I invited her to see the movie and she told me the movie "was blasphemous" against God. I politely told her my take on it and that was the last time I ever saw her.
