Oh, that and I have no portion control mechanism for things like ice cream. Can't even have the stuff in the house! :(

Sadly true. There are some things that I have had to cut out almost completely. Pizza is the #1. Thank God for Lean Cuisine pizza's or I would have gone crazy. But Giordano's and all the great local Chicago pizza places haven't had my business in a long time.

And chips. I'm a total chip-a-holic. It doesn't even matter what kind I love them all. The only ones I get now are the 100 calorie pack of Pringles.

Re. Control for Ice Cream and other carbs.

This was one of the eye opening moments for me.

Our bodies are designed to eat meat. Our digestive system is almost identical to a dogs, and not similar at all to a cow.

Because of this, we have natural triggers for when we are full if eating protein and fat. Have you noticed that you can sit with a nice steak and feel full and leave some on the plate?

But, we don't have triggers for when we are full of carbs. This is because the sugar in the carbs acts like a drug to our system and overrides any full trigger. So, after you have said you were full of steak, you still magically have room for that chocolate cake that is on the desert menu.
