Sopranos-The New Season Begins on Sunday Night--Official Thread
HBO ^ | 3/10/06 | Misterrob

Posted on 03/10/2006 10:52:47 AM PST by misterrob

I didn't see one had been started for the show so I thought I'd create one.

Last season left us with Tony having to exercise some leadership within his own organization in order to save them from a war with the larger and more powerful NY families. His nemesis is picked up during a sweep leaving a void in the mob heirarchy. Meanwhile Tony and his wife have reconciled (badly done mind you), Meadow is now engaged to her confused, brow beaten and somewhat afraid boyfriend. Initial reviews point to a good season with new cast members Ben Kingsley, Tim Daley and Juliana Margulies joining the show.

It sounded familiar but I couldn't place it. The cheating thing seemed to be his stepping out of himself into someone new. The talk between the woman and him when they were kissing and her asking/saying that "This isn't going to happen" because of him being married. He made a mention of being someone else for the night and then the light shone down upon him with her saying that they were looking for "perps" which is something a person with street savvy would say.

Temptation.

I agree, it was the worst episode ever in the whole series. I came very close to turning it off, but I kept hoping it would improve. It didn't. Dull, overacting, poor script, it sucked.

The whole existential theme is really hard to do with characters such as these. They have done a good job but the imagery angles are being pushed too hard. Tony and water, the ducks, the mother/goddess/whore angle, the black outs, the food....

It's the mob for crying out loud.

I'm ready to place my bet...

Tony dies in the 4th episode of this season.

I don't. I think he will have his moment with God and will choose to change his ways or be forced to change his ways due to ill health. If they go that route then you can flush the whole show down the toilet.

I doubt he dies. There is no show without him. People won't watch flashbacks and role players for very long.

The segue was also interesting -- the group wanting him to join their table. After brief discussion, you get the impression that apparently he's a "big" guy in this industry as well. Woman drawn to power angle after, maybe.

Next week's episode looks to be non-stop, if all of the scenes previewed are featured. One I found interesting was Gabriella and Silvio staring into the mirror, she like the "proud wife."

I think Tony does die, as well, but later. Maybe the last episode before the "break" (what is it - 9 episodes now and 5 next January?)

Although I don't know if I can take more of the dream sequence in its present form.

That would be nasty. But not as nasty as the thought of the fat gay guy Vito taking AJ home. That scene made me cringe. Vito needs to die, ASAP.

I think Agent Harris has a trick or two up his sleeve. He carries some confidence in spite of his parasite that he usually lacked in previous plotlines, and maybe the FBI has uncovered some info that the Jersey mob has been (unknowingly) laundering money for terrorists?

Last night was the Sopranos' version of "That's My Dog" (Six Feet Under viewers will know what I'm talking about.) Worst. Episode. Ever.

Worst. Episode. Ever.

Easily.

Why the hell am I being asked to give a crap about the medical diagnosis of a fictional character's imaginary vision of his alternate self? If somebody doesn't shoot somebody next week, I'm shooting my television.

And where the f#*k is the Russian interior decorator who escaped in the pine barrens?!?

Worse then the hour long dream sequence last season? Cause that was pretty bad. Tony on the horse in the living, having sex with Artie's wife, riding in the car with Junior and Tony's dad.

I didn't catch what he did to tick off the buddhists. I would imagine you have to do something pretty bad to make a buddhist hit you.

With the hollywood data base showing he's already canned 3 movies for 2006 only in March, I think that is a stong indication he went into the movies for good.

FORGETABOUTIT!

Was it just me, or did the "wife's" voice over the telephone line sound like Charmaine? I also noticed that Tony lost his Jersey Italian accent.

I noticed it wasn't Carmella's voice, but I didn't pick up on whose voice it was. I did notice he dropped his accent, too. Guess there are no regional accents in purgatory. LOL

I figured out the purgatory symbolism, but it's not really purgatory, because Tony's not dead.

It's just Tony dreaming about being in purgatory, and it's boring as hell.

I want Furio to come back, but now realize I don't think
Carmella deserves him.
