Listened to Elizabeth Smart on Hannity Show
Sean Hannity show | Vanity

Posted on 03/09/2006 12:23:37 PM PST by robjna

I listened to Elizabeth Smart and her father last nite on the Sean Hannity Radio Show and it reminded me that when the story was first out, something seemed not right about the whole affair. As I listened to her talk last nite, she seemed really slow and almost programmed. I don't know why i felt the whole story was hinky. Is that a word? I just felt the father was hiding something and the daughter wasn't acting like an abducted child. Maybe she was and her slowness made her easily manipulated. Has anyone ever heard about what happened to her abductors? The Smart family seemed liked the "stepford family". Has anyone else ever gotten strange vibes from this whole affair or am I alone on this one?

Ed always seem to be pushing Elizabeth to perform in public? If Elizabeth wants to grant interviews when she is an independent adult, fine, but her father has been shamefully derelict in protecting her privacy throughout this ordeal. I wouldn't tell dear old Ed anything either if he was my dad. He's a publicity hound, and his daughter probably knows it.

Agreed.

Sean should not have had her on the show. Too often it's ALL ABOUT HIM. Yesterday was one of those times.

Did he offer her one of his books?

LOL............. no I think he was ready to give her some steaks from Ruth Chris, but Elizabeth wanted to get off the darn show.

It was ugly and an insult to decency to have her on.

I think Ed was the one in love with the 'Prophet', if you ask me.

That's not as odd as it might sound to some others. I hear what you are saying (I think). I wonder where that "abductor" is today.

Do a search in the archives on Elizabeth Smart. You'll fit right in with several FReepers who thought the family was to blame, that she would runaway immediately after she was found because she really really wanted to be some old guys wife and was tired of the structure in her life. (BTW, I'm not one of those FReepers, I'm glad they found her, I'm glad she has been able to resume somewhat of a normal life, in spite of the fact that she was abducted, "married", and sexually abused.)

The "abductor" today is being held at the Utah State Mental Hospital in Provo, Utah. He has pleaded not guilty, and has been found mentally incompetent to stand trial. He'll stay there until he is found mentally competent, and then will go to trial.

Would I let my daughter go on the Sean Hannity show? No, but I don't like Hannity at all. --- good, me neither.

Sorry that some people viewed the case and felt something was odd about it. Sorry you found the need to refer to another here as "disgusting".

I certainly wish the best for Elizabeth in the future.

It's simple.

Ed will do almost anything (including using his kids) to get on TV. He's had 1000 times his 15 minutes of fame, and it seems he wants even more. This is NOT a comment on Elizabeth, BTW.

I hear you. Mr. Smart seems a little strange to me.

Only time will tell on this.............. and then, time may never tell the truth.

What I mean is that I think Ed Smart considered the abductor to be a real Prophet. That is "how he likes the Prophet more than his daughter did".
I think he got excited at the potential prospect of being one of the Prophet's disciples. He seems to be a media/attention driven person with some very serious mental problems, and he exhibits this by continually dragging his daughter into the spotlight.

Sure. Texting is OK, but it's not perfect at conveying meaning, sometimes.

By this article from robjna how are you parents feeling if your child stutters or has some kind if speech impediment, or some other kind of learning disability is that an opening to judge another or mock or belittle?

I think this tells a lot in the homes where those children come from to taught and bully the strange child in school!

If I had been through what Elizabeth had, I wouldn't want to talk about it either. Especially to my parents! She spoke slowly, at times well, but I see no reason to think that anything is amiss. I also don't think that her father has trotted her out before the media much at all. I think he's been rather protective. And now, they are making a media appearance as part of trying to get legislation passed. I think this young woman wants to try and make her terrible ordeal make a difference and help someone else. Good for both of them!

I got the Stepford vibes, too. I did not see the show you are talking about today.
