In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
Hobson's choice \HOB-suhnz-CHOIS\, noun:
A choice without an alternative; the thing offered or nothing.
Example sentence:
Fagan's defense revolves around his insistence that he faced a Hobson's choice and had to act.
-- Laura Parker, "Discovery of daughters never followed by reunion," USA Today, May 11, 1999
Etymology: The origin of the term Hobson's choice is said to be in the name of one Thomas Hobson (ca. 1544-1631), at Cambridge, England, who kept a livery stable and required every customer to take either the horse nearest the stable door or none at all.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

You were the sixth one in the door. Good morning!
They are slobs, pure and simple. He is posturing and considering a run for political office. And she has a tawdry past.
A+! Very clever!

Hi Gabz. We have thunderboomers rolling in today so I'm off to the park to get my run done before they hit.
ok spill detes on tawdry past.
How far you run SG?
Who's Hobson and when is he gonna sign in to give us the WFTD?
When I read the following letter to the editor this morning, it got my blood going. What this legislator said about gifted students ehlping others is EXACTLY the excuse I was given by the school district here for their elimination of the reading program instituted in Jax school.
Stay dry!!!!
Five miles a day. I prefer the great outdoors to the treadmill.
You're so funny! A+ for making me laugh.
I wish. I sweat like a construction worker. Sorry, TMI...
from what i understand, there is plenty of money for gifted students, as well as challenged students, in public schools, it is kids in the middle ground that are shortchanged.
I finished season two of 24 while working out. I loved Pres David Palmer.....right up until I saw his interview at the end of the season.....he based his character on two of his fav presidents.....the peanut farmer and the impeached one.....and a little colin powel thrown in for good measure.........GAG me!!!!!!!!!!!
And that is wrong. I don't see why there has to be any disparity at all.
What appears to have prompted the comment from the legislator (who is a public school teacher) is one of the northern Delaware charter schools has such an excellent reputation for its curriculum they couldn't handle all of the appicants and have instituted an admissions examination and people are up in arms over it.
LOL!!! I was referring to the possiblity of rain - not sweat :)
