When I read the following letter to the editor this morning, it got my blood going. What this legislator said about gifted students ehlping others is EXACTLY the excuse I was given by the school district here for their elimination of the reading program instituted in Jax school.
Gifted children are not obliged to teach other kids
Why is it acceptable for the American educational system to use public funds to provide special education for challenged children but not for gifted students? We bemoan America's second-class status among world powers in math and science, but a high-level program fostering those skills is called illegal and elitist.
State Rep. Nancy Wagner's comment that it's important to have gifted kids in all classrooms so their peers can learn from them was offensive. No child has the responsibility for helping to educate peers, not at the expense of his or her own education.
I'm not claiming Jax is gifted, but when I repeated this reasoning from the district to coolbreeze he said I should have asked where was her paycheck.

from what i understand, there is plenty of money for gifted students, as well as challenged students, in public schools, it is kids in the middle ground that are shortchanged.

Hobson's Choice
In Hillary's world
there is but one
a world of prestige she craves
She kept Ole Bubba
quite in tow, the White House
to degrade
Power is her drug of choice
any horse will do
Hobson knew she'd be around
and handed her --he due
a broken down nag with the flu.

Five miles - good woman. And I'm with ya - there is a reason the treadmill was a medieval torture device

And that is wrong. I don't see why there has to be any disparity at all.
What appears to have prompted the comment from the legislator (who is a public school teacher) is one of the northern Delaware charter schools has such an excellent reputation for its curriculum they couldn't handle all of the appicants and have instituted an admissions examination and people are up in arms over it.
