Women working full-time are 29 per cent more likely to get divorced than those who stay at home and raise children.
Research to be published this week in the European Sociological Review finds that the probability of divorce is in direct correlation to the number of hours a woman worked.
Marilyn Stowe, a female divorce lawyer, suggested that working women had the economic freedom to consider life beyond marriage.
She added that they had greater confidence in their ability to make new friends and find new partners. "You suggest going out to work to a woman who has been at home for 15 years and their response is often that of horror," she said. With both partners increasingly going out to work, the findings go some way to explain the country's rising divorce rate.

You have to put extra effort into your marriage when you work outside of the home. Both are tired at the end of the day. Resentment can build up. There is also a trap. Oh yeah, we are making all this money. Big new house, new cars etc and suddenly the main reason most couples fight. Not enough money and too many bills.

She is, however, much less likely to be equipped to support herself and her children, and is therefore much less likely to to leave even if she very much wants to. Ever notice that men who are chronically drunk, violent, unemployed, etc. tend to have stay-at-home wives? Women who are capable of supporting themselves will usually take a hike from a loser husband, while women who aren't are much more likely to stay. Statistics in studies of this sort tend to be heavily skewed by the activities of the dysfunctional classes.

No, actually, I think that such loser men often have women partners who do work (not in high status jobs) to bring necessary money into the household.
