what's with your obsession with China and Communism?

Ah, the truth finally comes out, you see no problem with Communist China or giving them advanced technology free of charge. Well since you've been hiding from reality, living your own life free of concern, oblivious to the dangers of the real world, I'll tell. It's a brutal, totalitarian government run by one party, the communist party, that kills babies before they are born just because they are female, that tortures and kills people simply for practicing their religions, such as Christianity, jails those that attempt free speech, takes property away from farmers and forces them to work like slaves, denies everyone the right to vote, and offers no chance at reform. That's what's wrong, among other things, since you've obviously lived such a sheltered life you have no idea about the ways of the world. Will this stop you from asking foolish naive questions, or continuing to support free technology transfers to these barbarians, or other barbarians across the globe? I highly doubt it. Because you obviously believe there is no danger in transfering technology to them, completely for free, that they should be given the same rights we have, to do with whatever they chose, no matter how evil it may be, and you could care less as long as you get some free stuff too.

Ah, the truth finally comes out, China can get all the technology it wants if they pay us money for it. Your posting history shows this basic theme. Which is it, no tech or selling tech? The evidence you show clearly points to the latter.

This would make you by definition a hypocrite.

Well since you've been hiding from reality, living your own life free of concern, oblivious to the dangers of the real world, I'll tell.

It's you who's been hiding from reality. How many of us have explained to you over the last umpteenth months on countless threads the reasons why when open-source means anyone can access and improve on it freely, it means anybody?

I'll tell. It's because OSS is in your eyes the root of all evil, while MS and other proprietary companies have to be good--even as these companies sit in a position to sell out technical secrets that can easily affect, disrupt, or destroy our entire electronic infrastructure.

That's fine. But why did MS and other proprietary companies push to make (and later, keep) Communist China a Most-Favored-Nation status nation if these atrocities happen?

That's what's wrong, among other things, since you've obviously lived such a sheltered life you have no idea about the ways of the world.

It seems we're more aware of the world than you are--every time you bring up these talking points, it's almost too funny how we always seem to poke big holes in them.

I may be just a college student, but I tell you, my life hasn't been sheltered in the least. It's not as bad as some people I know have had it, but pampered (which is what you imply) isn't the case. After all, I grew up in your typical middle-class household in suburbia in the Midwest.

Will this stop you from asking foolish naive questions, or continuing to support free technology transfers to these barbarians, or other barbarians across the globe? I highly doubt it.

Will this stop you from resulting to lowbrow emotional appeals to get us to drop our support for Linux and OSS? I highly doubt it.

Because you obviously believe there is no danger in transfering technology to them, completely for free, that they should be given the same rights we have, to do with whatever they chose, no matter how evil it may be, and you could care less as long as you get some free stuff too.

Because we believe that by making software open-source, other individuals and groups can use their talents to give us all a better product. We may not agree with who's producing or what's being done with OSS. However, with open-source software, we also get the ability to choose. If I don't like software being produced by the ChiComms, I don't have to use it--I can either live without it or find an alternative.

This choice is the beauty of open-source. On the other hand, this is all lost upon you simply because we're not getting paid directly by the Chinese for it.
