Irina Slutskaya will compete in next world championship

Irina Slutskaya decided to take part in figure skating world championship, which will take place in Calgary (Canada) on March 20-26. “I will certainly go to world championship,” stated Slutskaya, who has not been earlier included in the national team.

At the same time, Slutskaya does not still know, whether she will compete in the next Olympic Games. “I do not plan so far ahead,” stressed the figure skater, informs UTRO.ru web site.

For President of Russian Figure Skating Federation Valentin Piseev, Slutskaya’s decision was surprise. “I am surprised and pleased,” confessed Piseev. According to him, nobody from Olympic champions and medal winners planned to compete in the world championship.

Be interesting to see how she does, after her trouble at the olympics.

She's pretty tough, those are some powerful legs, but she's an "old lady" at 22. The Russians sure have gotten a lot cuter since the cold war.

Good for her- she could walk away and make millions in the Ice Capades, as she eventually will, but hats off to her for the spirit to continue competing after losing the gold last month...

From Wiki:
Irina Slutskaya (ru: ????? ???????), born February 9, 1979 in Moscow, Russia is a Russian figure skater. She is a two-time World Champion, seven-time European Champion, and two-time Olympic medalist.

That'd make her 27 :) (Extremely old to be performing at the level she does)

She is pretty, isn' she? But 22? No, she's even older, quite a feat for any skater. She turned 27 on Feb 9, right before the Torino Olympics opened. She's amazing to watch, but she's had some tough breaks, and I think nerves in the last Olympics. I hope she whoops the other skaters in the Worlds. She's so pretty. I've watched skating for years, and I recall the announcers stunned at her short hair choice, as most skaters then, especially the Russians, wore their hair long, like the more 'feminine' costumes.

LOL, doesn't translate well into English, does it? They call her 'Slute'. And in the gymnastics scene, for many years, the Russians had (still have?) the great Svetlana Khorkina, pronounced 'Hor-keena'. Another Russkie name that doesn't translate well into English... ;-)

OK, 27 then, but I knew she was "old". Good for her keeping at it.

I think she would make a great Clevelander.

And 20 years from now I'll be pushing up daisies anyway.
