Help with car purchase[VANITY]

Posted on 03/06/2006 8:05:45 PM PST by ozoneliar

I'm considering buying a car, but I don't want a cent of my money to, however indirectly, go to the mideast. I was looking into several alternative fuels. It seems the infrastructure to support most of these fuels is lacking. I did find one fuel--CNG compressed natural gas. It seems there are fueling stations across the country, as well home fueling options available.

I was thinking of either buying a GMC Sierra, or having another American car retrofitted to use CNG. I was hoping that some members here, also sick of supporting the mideast oil structure have experience with CNG or some other viable alternative.

Any advice, thoughts?

Have you had any hands on experience with CNG?

None specifically, I just had to do a report on Alternative fuel vehicles.

I did work at a muffler shop in high school and either a CGN vehicle or a propane vehicle came in off the freeway with the engine racing. Apparently, the mixture was a bit off and caused a fire in the intake manifold rather than the combustion chamber, which in turn melted the throttle butterfly. This was during the early 80's

I would think it's a bad time to go to natural gas since it has gone up in price more than any other fuel with more increases on the way.
