"Don't you think the price would also stabilize? The price reflects the illegal aspect/danger of the product. "
How much does tobacco cost to grow, versus the cost of a pack of cigarettes? The government will move in and pick up the action that the drug dealers lose.
So, just cause the pot will be taxed is a reason not to legalize it?
Just because something is 'easy' to grow doesn't mean people will do it. Parsley is easy to grow. Yet I buy it at the store.
"So, just cause the pot will be taxed is a reason not to legalize it?"
No... I think that part of the reason it's not legal is because it would be hard to tax. Home growers would be hard to tax. But, that's not the only reason.
I'm strongly in favor of legalization.
How much will this cost the U.S. citizens and who will pick up the next shipment of cannabis to the Elkhart, IN market? You know there is still a marijuana market there - don't you? Hypothetical - John Q. Public who was arrested a few years earlier or John R. Public who is a close friend of Hollars might become the next purveyor of the Elkhart market. The thing is that there is a healthy growing demand for cannabis. You can't deny it or stop it. All that "our" government can think to do is spend more billions in hard earned tax money and watch the demand for cannabis grow. It could be worse. Those who work in the relatively harmless cannabis industry could move into suppling dangerous drugs.
You know for a supply and demand market such as that of cannabis - with zero federal safety, quality or similar oversight - the whole thing works quite well. I have been around cannabis use for 35 years and it always amazes me how well a market can work in the absence of government interference. Now that is a conservative view point -i.e.- less government.
