Elkhart, IN - An Elkhart man faces federal charges after being arrested for possession of marijuana. Police arrested 19-year-old Brian Hollars last Wednesday after officers found 28 pounds of marijuana in an apartment in the city.

The marijuana has a street value of $53,000.

Earlier Monday, Hollars was charged in federal court for drug trafficking.

The local charges were dropped to allow the federal government to prosecute Hollars.

I've said for years if the Fed legalized pot and TAXED it, and legalized prostitution and TAXED it, the income tax could go away..

You CANNOT legalize MJ ... think of all the damage that would be done to the Pharmacutical and liquor industies if it were legalized !!!! Not even to mention all the people who would be out of work in the law enforcement / penal industry. My God ... if MJ were legalized ... prison guards would probably not have to work so many overtime hours ... at our expense

"...think of all the damage that would be done to the Pharmacutical and liquor industies if it were legalized "

When it comes to the American government, it's always follow the money. Always. You make a good point, but there are 2 more problems: #1 - The stuff would grow on concrete. It would be almost impossible to generate enough revenue if it were legal. Anyone could just grow what they wanted. #2 - There is no shortage of constituents that want to run other people's lives. Even if the only person you harm by smoking the stuff is yourself, there will be people lying awake at night trying to figure out how to stop you. Votes translate to money.

Oddly, some of them claim to be "conservatives."

" Anyone could just grow what they wanted"

You could say that now about fruits & veggies, but most folks choose to buy our produce from others.

If tomatos were $110/lb, more people would grow them. As it is now, most gardeners grow some.

Don't you think the price would also stabilize? The price reflects the illegal aspect/danger of the product. Once it is legal, the prices would go down. Those that don't want to pay for it, could take the time, effort & money to grow their own. Those who are too busy, would buy from the new pot farmers.
