TV personality Marco Mazzocchi holds the Olympic flame in Rome. Television viewers tuned in, turned off and preferred to be turned on by anything but the sight of unknown northern Europeans skiing, shooting and sliding their way to gold medals during the 2006 Winter Olympics(AFP/File/Andreas Solaro)

So, the highlight of the two-week Olympic telecasts was a "fun, spontaneous" yet embarrassing display by a narcissistic snowboarder? I guess that would make the highest example of class in these Olympics Cohen's politely yet indirect reply during an interview with Bob Costas, telling White "dream on."

Cheer up NBC. You still have Book of Daniel.

Whoops . . .

The Torino Games have struck me as one of the most predictable ever, with one or two surprises. All the spontaneity has been taken out of the Olympics. Given this, can we expect more of the same from Beijing two years from now? NBC has its work cut out for the Summer Games and to replicate the anticipation that used to have people on edge for Olympics past is going to be a challenge.

I tried to catch some of the Games every day, and the coverage did leave something to be desired.
