I fear this may be similar to WWII China, as the Chinese were busyt fighting the Axis powers, Communism was allowed to spread unchecked.

Might I be so bold as to recommend Stillwell and the American Experience in China, a biography of General Stillwell, written by Barbara Wertheim Tuchman.

Whatever happened, aftert the War, Chiang KaiShek ended up on an island smaller than New York state and Mao controlled the whole of China. The chinese won against afascism but loost to Communism.
