The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yeah...they're ok. They get my food down.

Ha ha!

They can bleach old fillings that have become discolored. Unless you need to get them replaced anyway, it's less invasive and less expensive.

My main problems are not new cavities. But fillings that are 30-ish years old needing to be replaced.

;-)

Speaking of food, I'm having a grilled cheese sammich with tomato soup.

Yummy, yummy.

You don't need any teeth at all to eat this. *grin*

These are the old amalgam fillings...they're dark blackish grey when they go in. At least mine were...ugly.

My teeth are pretty healthy, despite the abuse I give 'em. They are just beat up and need some spiffing.

It should be fine. For one thing the reduced static will cause them to attract less dust (which in turn keeps fans from getting gummed up and makes the stuff last longer). Unless there is actual condensation on the stuff there should be no problems. And there is no way that is going to happen unless you park a computer RIGH in front of an AC vent and put REALLY big humidifier in the room.
Just don't put the stuff right next to the humidifier, or over it if it is one of those steaming ones. The only thing that really causes issues is actual liquid moisture... or mold hehe. In avionics we have to specify and test for a certain kind of resistance to mold growth. That is only a risk in 100% humid tropical locations though.

Ok...so putting one in with the jedis should be ok and will certainly be ok in my room where I just have a TV...

I'm about to die...I can barely breath from allergies and I woke up actually choking this morning, felt like I was getting no air at all.

Ideal humidity for data centers is about 45%. Too low, and you get lots of static, and too high (over 70-80%) will deteriorate circuit boards over time, but it takes a long time. Temp is good at about 68.

Worst case is wildly fluctuating humidity and/or temp. Makes circuit boards and other parts expand and contract, creating little microfractures, and it's death on hard drive bearings and read/write heads.

The humidifier should be OK, though I wouldn't crank it up super high. Keeping a fairly constant humiditiy is probably better, even if it is a little on the high side, than letting it fluctuate up and down too much.

My .02

Well, Rosie had a dog - An Australian Shepherd - for about 3 minutes, till the owner came around the corner.

She's just stealing dogs from old ladies now. :~D

As you probably know 45%ish is also the comfortable range for humans, so if it feels just right in there this it is all good.

Here's an interesting thread.

Do you think I'm way off-base?
