What do you set the "Default Thread Subscription Mode on"

I'm trying to figure out how you tell when someone replies?

When looking at your thread, I subscribed to it by clicking "thread tools" and then subscribing to it. It should send you an email if someone replies then, or you can just keep checking the thread in the forum.
