Roll it, then plaster it with hairspray. That'll keep it out of your way.
Other then getting those big clips snagged in low branches, I've found the best way to keep hair out of the way is a big clip and a visor. The visor holds the stuff not quite long enough to go in the clip. Keeps it up off your neck and a visor is cooler then a hat.
