The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I tend to wear lawn mowers out. When they break down they aren't worth fixing. I buy disposable one's though. I don't think Hair's is a cheapy

I'll just have to get used to less money coming in. It will be better though.

My son has one of those, the old rotary mowers. Works really well but his lawn is probably 8' X 20" so it's not a lot of work.

Well, actually it wasn't ours. I lived in government housing and the project provided them. I guess they didn't trust us with gas ones. We had fun, chasing each other with them, though.

A few pictures of the barrel race:

Warm up:

Kristy, in the center.

I liked the seat on this saddle.

By the time Kris ran it was dark, so this picture is hardly worth posting, but, Oh well. She ran a faster time this week then last, went from 17.3 to 16.8, and got second this week.

We had a rotary one growing up - I used to hate to mow the lawn, still do :)

Yes, congrats on her time :)

I like the saddle but I'm one that braids feathers in mane too.

There is just something about pushing a mower, or walking behind one that is relaxing. It's just not the same with a riding one.

It funny - a lot of people feel that way but I really dislike it. I don't mind running a weed eater but mowers and mowing are something I have to force myself to deal with.

I would rather be outside mowing any day than in the house cleaning. I love the smell and seeing how nice and neat things look. I hate weed eating though. The darn things or heavy and the line gets tangled or broke. You know how you are supposed to tap it for new thread? Well, I get frustrated and my husband takes over when I start beating the head against the concrete.

LOL That's why I have this nice, light, electric weed eater. I can go as far as my extension cords do and use the time to wind on new string as a cigarette break.

You think:) I thought it was pretty cool, the sides of the stirrups matched the seat too:)

Speaking of string, my new bridle still hasn't got here. I need to check tomorrow and see what's taking so long.

That saddle would look interesting on a Paint or an App. I'm assuming it's hair-on cowhide. If it is, I wouldn't think it'd wear very well and you'd end up with a bald seat before too long.

Oh, I don't know. This is more my kinda mowing...

I mowed from about 5:30 until about 8 last night and got maybe half the pasture done. Gonna finish the rest this evening. It was the first time I'd driven this particular tractor and the gear pattern was different than the one I was used to but it wasn't too hard once you got the hang of it. But You really had to watch out for the hay spear on the corners though or you'd knock something down.

I managed to run over a big ball of barbed wire right off the bat and the darned thing almost shook me to death before I could get the PTO stopped. There's a junk pile out in the pasture and I was mowing around it and I guess the barbed wire got drug off the pile somehow and out in the weeds. But however it got there, I didn't see it coz the weeds were so tall and when I ran over it with the bushhog it got all wrapped around the blades and it was real fun there for a minute. Once I got it stopped, I drove it back to the barn, raised the mower, shut the tractor off, and cut it all loose with the bolt cutters. It was a real mess, but at least it didn't break anything and I could go back to mowing. I would've never heard the end of it if I'd broke the bushhog!
